Wolves earn first WIC victory

 MANNING (Jan. 5) -- Playing for the first time in more than three weeks, IKM-Manning opened January with a convincing 54-29 home win over winless Missouri Valley on Tuesday night, improving to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the Western Iowa Conference. Connor Keller and Brody Swearingen scored 11 points each to lead the Wolves while Kyler Rasmussen added 10 points and four assists and Cooper Irlemeier had eight points.

Hawkeye 10 Wrestling Meet moved to Red Oak

 REGIONAL (Jan. 6) -- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and limited spectators allowed to attend events, the Hawkeye 10 Conference announced Wednesday that it will be moving the 2021 H-10 Wrestling Tournament from Atlantic to Red Oak. Both gyms will be utilized to host this tournament at Red Oak on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Mary Nichols, 79

    ELK HORN -- Mary Elizabeth Nichols, 79, Elk Horn, died January 12 at the Salem Lutheran Homes.    A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.    Nichols is survived by daughters Linda (Robert) Holst of Omaha, NE, and Lisa Nichols of Jacksonville, FL; son Mike (Anita) Nichols of Harlan; daughter-in-law Toni Nichols of Elkhorn, NE; brother Bill Chapman, Jr.

Donnabelle John, 99

    HARLAN -- Donnabelle John, 99, Harlan, died January 10 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    A private family service will be held Friday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 14 from 1-7 p.m. at the funeral home.    John is survived by her daughter, Deb John; nieces, nephews and in-laws.

HCHS Drama to present Frozen Jr. as spring musical

    HARLAN – The Harlan Community High School Drama Department has announced it will present the spring musical Frozen Jr., with auditions set for this week.    With the past year disrupting many events nationwide due to COVID-19, director Kayla Weis said the school will adhere to all audience safety guidelines recommended at the time of the April 23-25 production dates.
