Harlan native -- Christensen re-appointed chief justice of Iowa Supreme Court

    DES MOINES -- The Iowa Supreme Court re-selected Justice Susan Christensen, Harlan, as chief justice.    At the first meeting in each odd-numbered year, the justices of the supreme court by majority vote shall designate one justice as chief justice, to serve for a two-year term.

Shooting woes strike again as Cyclones fall to Falcons

 HARLAN (Jan. 8) -- The offensive struggles continued for the Harlan Community boys basketball team Friday in a 44-39 home loss to St. Albert. One night after scoring 77 points in a win over Red Oak, the Cyclones shot below 25 percent and scored less than 42 points for the second time in three games since the holiday break. The final numbers saw HCHS make just 4-of-22 two-point shots and 7-of-29 three-pointers for 21.6 percent overall.

Big second quarter carries Cyclone boys past Red Oak

 HARLAN (Jan. 7) -- All five Harlan Community starters scored in double figures Thursday night as the Cyclone boys topped Red Oak 77-58 in Hawkeye Ten action. Sparked by a 12-0 run, HCHS outscored the Tigers 30-16 in the second quarter to take control. Will McLaughlin led the way for the Cyclones with 20 points and nine rebounds, shooting 7-of-11 from the field.

And driving is slick around town

Just now Shelby County Emergency Management and some helpful motorists pulled this vehicle from a drift at 7th and Durant Sts. Everyone was okay. Be Careful! Hard to see during these blizzard conditions.

Drifts are getting larger

Thinking we are getting more snow than the National Weather Service originally thought Harlan and Shelby County would see. We'll keep you posted.

Reid: Protest Mostly Praying, Singing
