    PAPILLION, NE -- Terri E. McNiel, 60, Papillion NE, died January 15, 2021.    Her pre-school years were in Harlan, IA and Wayne, NE. She finished her schooling at Jefferson H.S.

Birthday Milestones - Mary Klindt

    HARLAN -- Mary Clare Klindt of rural Harlan will celebrate her 97th birthday on January 31. Her family is planning a card shower in her honor. Cards will reach her if sent to 532 Ironwood Road, Harlan, IA 51537.    Mary’s children include Kathleen Eckerman, Harlan; Lois Flemming, Minden, and the late Jan Flemming; the late Lynn Klindt; Dale and Ronda Klindt, Avoca; and Dean and Julie Klindt, Harlan.

    COUNTY -- Julie Kruse of Panama and daughters, Morgan, Kerrigan and Braylan, were doing what the majority of Shelby Countians were doing Friday, Jan. 15 during the blizzard conditions.  They were staying home and staying safe. Julie’s husband, Jeremy, was able to get into work but the Kruse girls were content to be home.    “I am working a half day from home. Then I hope to organize and do some cleaning.

Haake appointed chairman of Shelby County Supervisors

    COUNTY – Darin Haake has been named chairman of the Shelby County Board of Supervisors this year, and will preside over a board that is currently working diligently to prepare next year’s budget.    Haake is joined on the board by supervisors Steve Kenkel and Charles Parkhurst.    Haake was unanimously elected chairman while Kenkel was unanimously elected vice-chairman of the 2021 board.    Besides tackling the budget, the board at its off

Spartan girls improve to 12-0

 ELK HORN (Jan. 12) -- The seventh-ranked Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton girls basketball team improved to 12-0 overall here Tuesday night with a 70-38 win over Glidden-Ralston, sweeping the season series in Rolling Valley Conference action.

Exira-EHK boys beat Wildcats

 ELK HORN (Jan. 12) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton boys improved to 7-4 overall and 7-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference Tuesday night with a 66-43 win over Glidden-Ralston. Leading scorers for the Spartans were Tyler Petersen with 23 points, Cash Emgarten 15, Easton Nelson nine and Trey Petersen eight.
   Exira-EHK trailed 14-9 after one quarter before outscoring the Wildcats 17-7, 23-14 and 17-8 over the final three periods.

Top-ranked Rams slam the door on Cyclone girls’ winning streak

 GLENWOOD (Jan. 12) -- The top-ranked Glenwood girls took control early and added a finishing statement late here Tuesday night, beating No. 11 Harlan Community 79-46 to sweep the season series. HCHS, which has now lost nine straight to the Rams in girls basketball, saw its five-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 9-3 overall.
