Myrtue Medical’s Jacobsen awarded $9,594 salary increase for 2021-22

    HARLAN -- Myrtue Medical Center’s CEO Barry Jacobsen employment contract has been renewed in the second year of a three year contract.    In accordance with his contract, Jacobsen will receive a four percent increase, along with all other hospital staff, effective January 2021.

Capital plan outlines airport expansion

    HARLAN – The Harlan City Council has signed off on a five-year capital improvement plan for the Harlan Municipal Airport, which will include a number of proposed projects including an apron expansion to be funded mostly by federal funds from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).    The city is eligible for up to $150,000 per year in FAA funding for airport improvements, and can bank those dollars for a more significant project capped

HCHS girls hit 10 treys in 30-point victory at Clarinda

 CLARINDA (Dec. 22) -- Brecken Van Baale knocked down five of Harlan Community’s 10 three-pointers Tuesday night as the 13th-ranked (4A) Cyclone girls finished December with a 64-34 win at Clarinda. HCHS built a 33-17 halftime advantage before outscoring the Cardinals 23-6 in the third quarter to make it a rout.

 CLARINDA (Dec. 22) -- The Harlan Community boys gutted out another low-scoring Hawkeye Ten victory on Tuesday night, rallying back twice in regulation and beating Clarinda 52-49 in overtime. HCHS improved to 4-2 overall and took a perfect 4-0 conference record into the two-week holiday break. “This was a very hard fought road win,” said HCHS coach Mitch Osborn.
