Cyclones drop season opener to Monarchs

The Denison Monarchs boys varsity golf team set the tone against the HCHS Cyclones Thursday at the Harlan Golf & Country Club as they beat the Cyclones 173-189.
“Denison-Schleswig had an excellent day with all 6 of their varsity players scoring in the 40s,” said Cyclone Head Coach Chad Swanson. “Their balance was the key as we struggled to avoid trouble all day long.”

Cyclones finish 2nd at Koos Invitational

The HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team took a second place finish overall at the Koos Invitational with 121.5 points, just half a point behind Atlantic who won the event.

Cyclones fall to Saintes on Klusman’s big night

Less than 10 minutes into Tuesday’s home game at Merrill Field, Senior Saint Ella Klusman scored her first goal of the game, giving St. Albert an early 1-0 lead, which would be all they would need en route to a 4-0 victory over the HCHS Cyclones.
“She’s a great player,” said Cyclone Head Coach Jared Boysen. “I’ve always said that since she’s been a freshman. Trying to stop her, we’ve done a lot of different things.”

Vikings boys soccer drops game in second half

With the AHSTW Vikings boys soccer team trailing 1-0 at the half, courtesy of a goal from West Central Valley Senior Kamron Kunkle, it looked like the Vikings were going to turn the tables on the Wildcats in the second half and score, but unfortunately couldn’t as the Wildcats scored six more goals, cruising to a 7-0 victory, handing the Vikings their second loss.

Vikings get shut down by Wildcats at home

Senior Wildcat Sara Titkova set the tone for her team Monday night on the road in Avoca, scoring the first two of three goals, including the first one less than two minutes into the game, handing the AHSTW Vikings girls soccer team their second loss of the season.

Audubon Early Bird Event

With their previous event at Denison High School cancelled due to inclement weather, the HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team didn’t skip a beat with having to adjust to another outdoor meet at Audubon.

Vikings run strong at Griswold/Stanton Meet

The AHSTW Vikings boys track and field team continues to dominate relay races taking top five finishes in both 4x400 and 4x800 relay with times of 3:53.02 and 9:33.19. The 4x400 team finished in second place, just 11+ seconds behind ACGC. The 4x800 finished in fifth place, just 43+ seconds behind Riverside, who won the event.

Cyclones get shut out by Cardinals at home

Less than five minutes into Thursday’s game, Freshman Cardinal Beau Thiel scored a goal for Treynor giving his team a 1-0 lead, which would be all the Cardinals would need to go on to win 3-0 over the HCHS Cyclones.
“It’s one game,” said Cyclone Head Coach Dave Voge. “Those guys [Treynor] went to state last year. They’re a very good team. Well coached and they know what to do.”

Cyclones drop season opener to Panthers

After a tough season opener to the Panorama Panthers in their 2023 opener at home in which they lost 5-1, the HCHS Cyclones girls soccer team was hoping for redemption, but came up short, once again losing 3-1.

Sonderman and Stork set tone at Dan Lennon Event

Cyclone Junior Lindsey Sonderman and Cyclone Senior Kami Stork both performed well in the Dan Lennon Invitational hosted by the University of South Dakota last Tuesday.
Sonderman finished second in both the 1600 and 3200m races, with times of 5:26.84 and 11:34.70. Allie Anderson also competed well in the 1600, finishing in 14th place with a time of 6:06.49.
