IHSBCA releases 2021 All-State baseball teams

 STATE -- The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association announced its 2021 All-State Baseball teams on Tuesday, August 10, citing four Tri-Center players and 17 total players from southwest Iowa. This year’s All-State captains include: Seth Clausen of Pleasant Valley in Class 4A; Owen Puk of Marion (3A); Zach Pleggenkuhle of Van Meter (2A); and co-captains Blaine Harpenau of Remsen St. Mary’s and Cy Patterson of Council Bluffs St.

Shelby County Comm. Chest now accepting applications

    COUNTY -- Non-profit agencies within Shelby County will have until the end of August to complete applications for funding from Shelby County Community Chest (SCCC). Funds from SCCC are made possible by the generosity of local donors to the SCCC annual fund drive which will be taking place this fall.    Shelby County Community Chest accumulates and then disburses the funds from this campaign to local non-profits for a single year.

STOP grant helping with threat assessment plan

    HARLAN – The Harlan Community Schools, as part of the Green Hills Area Education Association territory, has been awarded up to $8,000 in federal grant funding through the Department of Justice over a three-year period for threat assessment training.    The monies will be instrumental in helping the HCS district, in partnership with the AEA and law enforcement, in its crisis team planning and efforts to provide needed assistance to students

Career Cafe available for HCHS students

Welcome new HCS, SCCS Staff

Richard Burgod, 68

    HARLAN -- Richard L. Burgod, 68, Harlan, died August 18 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.    Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Ipswich, SD.  Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 23 from 5-8 p.m.
