Bauer’s Shoes laments loss of Nike

Bauer’s Shoes store  has been selling the Nike brand of athletic shoes for 41 years. Since the footware giant began focusing more on consumer direct retail in the past few years, Keith Bauer has been waiting for the other shoe to drop. In January, the store received an email. Nike just did it.   Bauer says the email stated the company was changing the way they do business.

Lions Club hopes plates are gifts that keep on giving

Harlan Lions Club is again sponsoring a May Day/Mother’s Day giving plate project. Club members are hand painting ceramic plates with a design and the words, “The Giving Plate” and “Enjoy-Refill- Pass” on them. Each plate will feature a clear bag of six home baked chocolate chip cookies and a bag of six home baked sugar cookies on each plate. The plate and cookies will be wrapped in a clear cellophane bag tied with a bow.

2022 Tivoli Prince and Princess are announced

Introducing the Tivoli 2022 Princess Susan Reinhardt and Prince Brody Larsen.  Students submitted their entry for consideration. They had to draw and color their favorite book.  Susan is in the third grade and the daughter of Steve and Patricia Reinhardt of Kimballton.  Brody is in the first grade and is the son of Justin and Beth Larsen of Elk Horn.

Boys Tennis loses matchup to Glenwood

It was another rough day for the Harlan boys as they lost to the Glenwood Rams at the tennis courts by a final of 9-0. Despite the tough loss, head coach Dillon Stane feels as if the team is improving and becoming more comfortable when playing.
“I thought we had a lot more net play today,” Stane said. “A couple guys seemed to feel more comfortable up at the net, so I was really happy with how they responded today with that.”

Girls Tennis defeated by Kuemper Catholic

On Monday night, the Harlan tennis girls were on the road taking on Kuemper Catholic and were defeated 8-1. The wind was fierce and the temperature was low, however head tennis coach Katie Arentson was pleased with the overall performance.

Harlan tennis boys drop matchup to Kuemper Catholic

It was a rough day for the Harlan boys tennis team with fierce winds affecting their performance as they dropped their matchup to Kuemper Catholic 9-0. Head coach Dillon Stane was still proud of their efforts despite a tough day on the courts.
“They played relatively well today,” Stane said. “There was a lot of competitive matches. It’s not going to reflect in the scorebook, but there was a lot of times they were going to deuce.”

Bjoin moves on after 33 years at Harlan Newspapers

William Roof, 86
