C3 to host GALA for IKM-M education needs

HCS has clean audit; stimulus funds noted

    HARLAN – Auditors for the Harlan Community School District report increased revenues and expenditures with a clean audit for the year ended June 30, 2021.    The HCS Board of Education accepted the audit from Schroer & Associates, P.C. during its regular meeting Monday, Feb. 21.    HCS Director of Finance Brian Gubbels called it a clean audit with no significant compliance issues, which is always a good sign.

Mildred Cecilia Retz, 93

    HESPERIA, CA -- Mildred Cecilia Retz, 93, Hesperia, CA, formerly of Earling, died January 19 at her home.    She is survived by her children: Peggy of Victorville, California, Jeanie (Tom) of Cambria, California and Mark of West Covina, California.

Patricia Jensen Taylor, 68

    GOLD CANYON, AZ -- Patricia (Trish) Ann Taylor, 68, Gold Canyon, AZ, formerly of Harlan, died February 25.    Services are pending.    She is survived by her husband, Ken of Gold Canyon, AZ: sons, John (Kandice) of Mesa, AZ, Joel of Scottsdale, AZ & Josh of Gold Canyon, AZ.

Kimberly Carrier, 51

    HARLAN -- Kimberly Jene Carrier, 51, Harlan, died February 27 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.    Services were held Thursday, March 3 at 1 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.    Carrier is survived by her mother, Mary Ann (Porter) Trierweiler of Harlan; husband Travis Carrier of Harlan; son Jeremy Carrier, Harlan; daughter Whitney Carrier, Harlan; brothers Gerry (Kim) Ballantyne, Jr.

HCS, HEA present initial contract proposals

    HARLAN – The Harlan Education Association and Harlan Community Schools Board of Education will enter exempt closed session meetings to negotiate a contract settlement following initial proposals presented Monday, Feb. 21.    Both entities proposed a yearly package increase of three percent for the 2022-23 fiscal year master contract, which equates to $609 added to the base salary and movement on the salary scale.
