Girls Tennis drops match to Lewis Central

On Monday night, The HCHS girls varsity tennis team lost 9-0 to the Lewis Central Titans.
“It was an extremely hot and windy night, and both of those elements really challenged our girls,” said HCHS Head Tennis Coach Katie Arentson. “The girls did eventually adapt to the elements, but it made play quite tricky for a while.”

Lady Wolves win Boyer Valley Invite

On Monday night, the IKM-Manning lady Wolves competed in the Boyer Valley Invite at Boyer Valley High School and took home first place.
“It was really great to see those athletes step up and go out and compete and it was nice to see the depth the team has developed this year,” said Wolves Head Coach Emma Konkler.
Konkler spoke on how this will help her team as they approach districts later this week at Audubon High School.

AHSTW FFA receives funds to finish greenhouse project

AVOCA --  Local farmer, Brad Meyers, recently directed a $5,000 Bayer Fund America’s Farmers Grow Communities donation to AHSTW. AHSTW will use the funds to complete the greenhouse project.“The greenhouse project has been a long term goal since I began at AHSTW. I can’t thank supporters, like Brad, enough for helping us make it a reality.

Bringing the Zoo to You

HARLAN --  Parian Masonic Lodge #321 in Harlan sponsored “Grossology”, part of Henry Doorly zoo’s “Bring the Zoo to You” program.Approximately 750 Harlan Community Elementary Schools learned about the grossest animal traits Friday, May 6.Brian and Holly led the demonstrations, which featured a slide show, cockroaches, and Yolanda the tarantula.

Cyclones have a strong night at Denison

On Friday, the HCHS boys golf team played the Triangular Event in which they played against Boyer Valley and Denison at Majestic Hills Golf Course, finishing tied for first, but losing on a tiebreaker.
“We put one of our better team scores of the season on the board Friday afternoon at Denison,” said HCHS Head Golf Coach Chad Swanson.
Swanson highlighted an individual on his roster who had a big day out on the course.

Cyclones have strong night in Atlantic

Thursday night, HCHS boys and girls track and field team competed in the Hawkeye-10 Coed Track Meet. The boys took home fourth place and the girls took home second place as they competed competitively throughout the night.

Wolves tie for first place at Jim Yunek Coed Relays

On Thursday, the IKM-Manning girls track and field team competed in the Jim Yunek Coed Relays and tied for first place with Pocohontas.
“We were very happy with how the girls ran last night,” said Wolves Head Track and Field Coach Emma Konkler. “Emily Albertsen and Morgan Hanson set the tone for the night, both running great races in the 3000.”

Cyclones win fourth straight game

On Thursday, the HCHS girls varsity soccer team took on the Creston Panthers and dismantled them, 9-0. With this win, it marks their fourth consecutive victory and moves their overall record to 8-5.
“It was another chilly and rainy evening in Creston last night,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Jared Boysen. “The defense continued to play really well last night not allowing Creston any shots in the game.”

HCHS Girls Tennis takes eighth in Hawkeye Ten

On Wednesday, the HCHS girls varsity tennis team played in the Hawkeye Ten Girls Tennis Tournament. They took home eighth place out of 11 teams that competed.
“Overall the girls placed eighth in the Hawkeye Ten tournament,” said HCHS Head Tennis Coach Katie Arentson. “While their play on the court was great, I am even more proud of the way that they treat each other and their opponents.”
