Cyclones shut down Monarchs on home turf

The HCHS varsity softball team took on the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs Thursday night at home and won, 1-0, behind the shutout arm of senior pitcher Tianna Kasperbauer.
“We’ve been struggling offensively, but we’ve also been struggling defensively,” Kasperbauer said. “I think when we need a run, we get a run, so that’s good for us.”

Cyclones bounce back against Monarchs

After a tough loss against the Lewis Central Titans on Wednesday night, the HCHS varsity baseball team bounced back against the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs the following night and won, 5-1.
“This is obviously huge because last night didn’t end the way we wanted it to,” said junior catcher Austin Schumacher. “Tonight felt great.”

Eileen Anderson is featured artist at Sunday’s Art in the Park

HARLAN — Over 20 artists will be featured during Art in the Park this Sunday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pioneer Park in Harlan.Interactive art activities will take place from noon - 3 p.m. GameTime Eats food truck will be selling Philly sandwiches throughout the event and music will be performed.Eileen Anderson of Ankeny will be the featured artist. Anderson grew up as a farm girl in southern Iowa.

Boy Scouts have their first girl troop

The Ohwahnasee District, which includes Adair, Audubon, Carroll, Cass, Crawford, Harrison and Shelby Counties of the Mid-America Council of the Boy Scouts of America, is excited to announce the first girl troop in the district.

Cyclones hang on to win over the Titans

In a seventh inning rally, the Lewis Central Titans had the tying run on base with two outs, but senior Kelsi Hoffman caught a pop up in foul territory that secured a 7-6 victory for the HCHS varsity softball team.

Cyclones drop game to the Titans

It seemed like the Cyclones had a victory over the Lewis Central Titans, but with only one out remaining in the game and down by a run, Lewis Central rallied and beat the Cyclones, 11-6.
Throughout the game, the Cyclones rallied as sophomore Quinn Koesters had three hits and drove in two runs. Junior Stephen Leinen also had a multi-hit game and drove in two runs as well, but in the end, it didn’t go in the Cyclones favor.

Cyclones sweep doubleheader against Panthers

Tuesday night on the road, the HCHS varsity baseball team comfortably swept a doubleheader against the Creston Panthers winning the first game, 10-4, and taking the second game, 5-1.
“They battled us very well,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “Seems like with us, it just takes one guy to kind of break that seal and then everybody kind of starts hitting.”

Cyclones split doubleheader with Panthers

Tuesday night on the road, the HCHS varsity softball team played a doubleheader against the Creston Panthers and won the first game, 7-5, but dropped the second game, 6-2.
During game one of the doubleheader, the Cyclones scored four runs in the second inning and three in the third inning.

Crusaders hand Cyclones their first loss

After giving up 11 runs in the first inning, it was a long Friday night on the road as the HCHS varsity baseball team lost 12-0 via the mercy rule to the Bishop Heelan Crusaders.
“Cael [Goshorn] wasn’t throwing the ball bad,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “He was just a little bit up in the zone. They were putting good swings on the ball that he left up and it just kind of snowballed on him.”
