Cyclones defeat Bulldogs to remain undefeated

Friday night, the HCHS boys varsity baseball team took on the LeMars Bulldogs and won to push their record to 3-0 to start the season.
“It was a nice night,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “Beautiful Friday night for us to play. A lot of the guys were pretty hyped up to be at home. We had a pretty good crowd.”
Stein credited a few players on his roster for their approach when taking at bats against the Bulldogs.

Boys soccer eliminated from the playoffs

Thursday night at Merrill Field, the HCHS boys varsity soccer team battled the Winterset Huskies in a playoff game, but were eliminated in a shootout as the Huskies went on to win 3-2.
“As we went along, we learned how to play with each other and at the end, we had a six-game win streak coming into here and we took it to penalty kicks and we just didn’t have enough,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Dave Voge.

Girls soccer season ends on disappointing loss

The HCHS girls varsity soccer team trailed 2-1 at the half, tied the game at two on a goal by senior Raegen Wicks, but unfortunately couldn’t finish the comeback in the second half as they lost 3-2 and ended their season.
“The effort was there,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Jared Boysen. “We didn’t quit the whole game. We knew coming into it, it was going to be right there.”

Cyclones shut down Stars to open season

On Monday in Sioux City, the HCHS boys varsity baseball team opened up their season on the road to play a doubleheader and were victorious in both games, winning the first 19-1 and taking the second 14-9.

Girls Golf finishes in tie with Trojans

On Monday afternoon, the HCHS girls varsity golf team battled the Atlantic Trojans in the heat and ended up tying each other with 214 strokes on the day. Two girls took home medals for the Cyclones.
“I thought the girls played tough,” said HCHS Head Golf Coach Todd Bladt. “Macy [Mueller], it’s her first time medaling. Also, Timber [Svendsen] in there. Both shot 52.”

Cyclones win sixth consecutive on Lyon’s goal

Going into halftime, both the HCHS boys varsity soccer team and the Creston Panthers were locked in a scoreless tie. However, only minutes into the second half, senior Ashton Lyon scored the lone goal on the night as the Cyclones won, 1-0.
“That was explosive,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Dave Voge. “That really just energized everybody and got everyone’s spirits up. It was nice to see Ashton come through.”

HCHS Track and Field competes strong at Denison

On Thursday, the HCHS boys varsity track and field team competed in the State Qualifying Meet at Denison High School in the heat and humidity.
“I thought our boys competed admirably at the State Qualifying Meet,” said HCHS Head Track and Field Coach Sam Brummer.
The Cyclones had a scary moment when one of their own went down during the 100m dash and had to sit out the remainder of the meet.

Cyclones win fifth consecutive match

On Friday, the HCHS boys varsity soccer team went on the road to play the St. Albert Falcons and beat them, 1-0 for their fifth consecutive victory.

Cyclones finish strong at State Qualifying Meet

It was hot and humid at Denison High School for the State Qualifying Track Meet, but the HCHS girls varsity track and field team came out strong and performed well.
