Kicking for the Dream

Stephen Leinen, HCHS placekicker/punter and member of the National Honor Society (NHS), is looking to support his NHS project by raising funds for Colleen’s Dream. 
Colleen’s Dream is dedicated to funding scientific research with the primary goal of developing an accurate and accessible early-detection test for ovarian cancer.

Vikings shut down by Trojans on senior night at home

Volleyball can sometimes come down to one mistake here or there, maybe a miscommunication among teammates or it could be sometimes the ball just doesn’t bounce your way.
While the AHSTW varsity volleyball team’s record doesn’t indicate how hard they’ve fought each and every night, the Vikings dropped three sets played Thursday at home against the Tri-Center Trojans, including their final set by three points.

Cyclones get mauled by Tigers; drop three straight

Emotions are a part of sports and winning is not easy and never guaranteed. Tuesday at home, the HCHS varsity volleyball team ran up against a buzz saw as the Red Oak Tigers dominated them, winning three straight sets 25-21, 25-19 and 25-15. According to head coach Elle Crees, communication was the biggest challenge of the night.

Wolves fall to 1-9 after tough loss against Treynor

The struggles continue for the IKM-Manning Wolves varsity volleyball team as it falls to 1-9 on the season losing its seventh consecutive match. Tuesday at home, they lost three straight to the Treynor Cardinals, dropping the final set by 15 points.

Full Steam Ahead

The annual Greenridge Steam and Gas show entertaned many this weekend.
Kids pet a baby yak. Students attended from area schools on Friday.
Students got to try activities such as rope making and watched the demonstrations of several vendors.
Fifth-graders from Exira-EHK stood in front of the steam engine.

Corn field day Wednesday

 
For several years, Jerry “Doc” Strissel and his team have developed white and yellow corn for the industry with proprietary genetics. They have 24 acres but it’s all hand-harvested.
JFS and Associates are hosting field day Wednesday. It will include a drone demonstration and hands-on training, white and yellow corn demos and people can learn about the potential expansion of local grower network for IP grain.

Hop in a plane and get there in less than 30 minutes. That’s what Steve Jeub and Rich Walker did recently, and have made a habit of it.
“We have to fly somewhere,” Jeub said. “We'll go to Yankton or Topeka. Anywhere within an hour or hour and a half out of Millard Airport in Omaha."
Walker said he and Jeub met three years ago.

A familiar face in voting booths for decades

A familiar face has been seen around local polling places since the early 1970s. Agnes Wehr, 88, of Westphalia, has served in various capacities since her children were school-aged.
