Cyclones take three of four from the Cardinals

Thursday at home, the HCHS varsity volleyball team took on the Clarinda Cardinals and won three of the four sets played evening their overall record at 7-7. The Cyclones took game one, 25-19; lost game two, 27-25; but won games three and four by scores of 25-17 and 25-23.

Kasperbauer stands alone; makes history

Teagon Kasperbauer, a senior at Harlan Community High School and stellar quarterback has made history for Harlan’s football program.
Last Friday, when the Cyclones were on the road in a match against the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors, Kasperbauer threw for 186 yards and surpassed Joel Osborn’s record of 6,382 passing yards, giving him sole possession of first place.

Spartans have frustrating night against the Cougars

Thursday at home, The Exira-EHK varsity volleyball team had a rough night against the CAM Cougars, dropping all three matches. With the losses, it moves their overall record to 4-9 on the season.
The students of Exira-EHK high school came out energetic as they were rocking Hawaiian shirts and swim gear hoping to see their Spartans get some wins over CAM.

Q: What are you most looking forward to with working at IKM-Manning?
A: I am looking forward to meeting the students and my fellow teachers at IKM-Manning. I consider myself a people-person and look forward to the relationships that are created at school.

Introducing IKM-Manning’s Foreign Exchange Student

            As we jump into a new school year at IKM-Manning, we’ve seen many new faces. One face that stands out in particular is Nuria Bachhofer, a foreign exchange student for the 2022-23 school year.
            Bachhofer is a senior and is from Stuttgart, Germany. She enjoys the fun, diverse atmosphere that IKM-Manning has to offer. She is currently residing with the Brian and Heather Reissen family.

School Resource Deputy RJ Bielenberg provides security, comfort for Harlan Community and Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton Schools

 COUNTY — Students at the Harlan Community and Exira - Elk Horn - Kimballton Schools saw a familiar face when they began the school year, as Shelby County Sheriff’s Department Deputy RJ Bielenberg has resumed his role in both locations as the School Resource Officer.  The position is made possible by a partnership with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the schools, Myrtue Medical Center Behavioral Health, and Southwest Iowa Mental Health

 SHELBY COUNTY — Shelby County voters in the Harlan Community School District approved a $22.9 million bond issue in a special election held Tuesday, September 13. Unofficial results provided by Mark Maxwell, Shelby County Commissioner of Elections, show Proposition TD (the bond) passed with 1003 yes votes  (60.31%) to 660 no votes (39.69%). The second measure, Proposition TE (The Revenue Purpose Statement), passed by 1,104 yes (67.24%) to 538

Cyclones compete at Des Moines East Dual

Tuesday in Des Moines, the HCHS swim team competed in the Des Moines East Dual in which two other teams went against them, Hoover and Des Moines East. Head Coach Stephenie Dale was pleased with the results of the meet.
