Spartans beat Bulldogs in four innings at home

After losing Tuesday night to the Earlham Cardinals at home 4-2, the Exira-EHK softball team put themselves back in the win column with a 16-4 victory over the Boyer Valley Bulldogs.
It only took four innings with the Spartans offense scoring five runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, six in the bottom of the 2nd and four in the bottom of the 4th.

Sears delivers walk-off against Atlantic

In the bottom of the 8th inning at Jim Goeser Field, with runners on 1st and 2nd base, Cyclone Junior Cade Sears stepped to the plate and hit a walk-off single to score Landen Kaufman, delivering their 6th win of the season. The Cyclones won 7-6.
“I was just looking for a fastball trying to get the job done for my team,” Sears said. “They got themselves in scoring position and all I did was hit it in the gap.”

Cyclones get dismantled by Trojans at home

The Atlantic Trojan offense scored 12 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, winning their 7th game of the season and handing the Cyclones their 11th loss in 12 games.
Cyclone Senior Jenna Gessert got the ball to start the night. She pitched two scoreless innings, but struggled in the top of the 3rd, only able to collect one out before eighth grader Camryn Goshorn took over.

Cyclones defeat Knights in 10 innings

It took 10 innings of baseball, but the Cyclones were victorious Monday night against the Kuemper Catholic Knights scoring five runs in the top of the 10th inning leading to a 8-4 victory, and their fifth of the season.
It all started with Cyclone Junior Braydon Ernst on the mound. Ernst went eight innings, with six strikeouts and walked one batter with 100 pitches thrown.

Wolves drop home game to Cardinals

The struggles continue for the IKM-Manning Wolves softball team, dropping their fourth consecutive game Monday night at home against the Treynor Cardinals 6-1.
For the Wolves, Junior Ella Richards pitched all seven innings, striking out nine batters.

Over 25 years of Shelby County’s Relay For Life

SHELBY COUNTY — Relay For Life has grown and evolved over the last 25 years it has taken place in Shelby County. It is a community celebration for survivors and those who have felt the weight of cancer at any point in their life.The annual Relay For Life event will take place June 9, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the town square.

City of Avoca to renovate the Avoca Legion Hall

Community members joined architects, engineers and community stakeholders for a kick-off meeting discussing the future plans for the current Avoca Legion Hall. Previously, the building was owned by the American Legion but recently was taken over by the city of Avoca.Building renovations will next enter the design phase. Contractors from The Franks Design Group, P.C.

Volunteers remove damaged trees at Harlan Golf & Country Club

 HARLAN — A group of over 20 volunteers donated their time and efforts to assist in the removal of approximately 70 trees at the Harlan Golf & Country Club last week. Paul Leinen, member of the club’s Tree Committee, said the trees were removed to counteract the effects of the emerald ash borer and banded ash borer beetles. “Two years ago, the drought weakened the trees,” Leinen said.

Shelby County Courthouse welcomes new IT Director

Cyclones drop road match to Titans

Wednesday, the HCHS varsity baseball team went on the road to battle the Lewis Central Titans, hoping to extend their win streak to four games, but were unsuccessful dropping the contest 14-4.
The damage occurred when the Titans dropped nine runs in the bottom of the 4th and three runs in the bottom of the 5th.
