Spartans drop Regional Final to Rebels

Trailing by 11 at halftime in their Regional Final match against the undefeated Westwood Rebels, the Exira-EHK Spartans were hoping for a second half comeback, but couldn’t catch up to the Rebels losing 55-35.

Borkowski brings home running award; Team finishes third

2020 HCHS graduate and current Dordt Defender Senior Lucy Borkowski helped lead her track & field team to a third place finish at the Great Plains Athletic Conference held for two days at the Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Field House in Yankton, South Dakota.

Spartans season ended in 1A-8 Semifinal by Tigers

Late in the 4th quarter of Tuesday’s 1A-8 Semifinal Game with the Exira-EHK Spartans leading 49-47, Junior Woodbine Tiger Carson Kelley came down court and launched a shot from 3-point range putting his team up by one, which started a 9-0 run to close out the game ending the Spartans season with a 56-49 loss.

Cyclones season ended in overtime by Panthers

With the clock ticking and the HCHS boys basketball season hanging by a thread, Senior Cyclone Cade Sears threw a pass to Senior Cyclone Brehden Eggerss who went up for an off balance 3-point shot tying the game at 51 saving the Cyclones season.
Unfortunately, the Cyclones went cold in overtime and lost 56-51 to the Creston Panthers.

Cyclones edge Braves for state tournament berth

In the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Regional Final Game against the Cherokee Washington Braves, Junior Cyclone Aubrey Schwieso was fouled, making one of two free throws, which would be enough to clinch a state tournament berth for the HCHS Cyclones girls basketball, winning 50-47.

The HCHS Cyclones boys wrestling team season has concluded after capping it off with an appearance at the state wrestling tournament which featured Senior Tytan Frohlich, and Juniors Brody McKinley, Spencer Fink, and Jesse Jens in Class 2A.

With a combination of stellar offense and jumping on the Riverside Bulldogs right away, the Exira-EHK Spartans won 75-64 Thursday night, advancing to the 1A – 8 Semifinal.
“We just had to make sure that we found their shooters right away,” said Spartans Head Coach Tony Santisteban said. “Obviously Grady [Jeppesen] is a really good player and he’s tough.”

Cyclones fall to Tigers on Senior Night

On a night when its seven seniors were honored including Kyre Nielsen, Will Arkfeld, Franz Reisz, Jason Erlemeier, Brehden Eggerss, Cade Sears, and Quinn Koesters for their contributions to the team, the HCHS Cyclones came out flat and lost 81-50 to the 10-10 Carroll Tigers.
