Patricia Jean Christensen, the daughter of Walter and Margaret White Christensen, was born on December 16, 1934, on a small farm near Prairie Rose Lake in Shelby County, Iowa.  She was the oldest of three children: John (deceased) and Mary Ellen (deceased).  She enjoyed life on the farm and spending time with the family.  Most of all Patti enjoyed their trips to Minnesota spending time with her aunts, uncles and cousins.  Patti attended three

   Irene “Granny” Hansen was born to Tenta (Christensen) and Carl Haferbier on August 13, 1923 in Sanborn, Minnesota. Irene attended grade school at the country school near Defiance, Iowa. She then attended Harlan High School where she graduated in 1942.

Lyle Nelson, 85

Lyle Nelson, age 85, of Atlantic, IA, and formerly of Elk Horn, IA, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Cass Health in Atlantic, IA.Lyle Byriel Nelson, son of Manvel and Lydia (Marcusen) Nelson, was born March 6, 1938, in Audubon, Iowa. Cyclones stamp ticket to Regional Final

After beating the Clarinda Cardinals 71-40, the HCHS girls basketball team has stamped their ticket to the Regional Final Game for the second consecutive season, which is set to take place Saturday night in Harlan. The Cyclones played the Des Moines Christian Lions last season in the Regional Final Tournament Game losing 64-38.

Wolves beat Spartans to advance to second round

IKM-Manning Wolves Senior Ross Kusel led the way Monday night at home against the West Monona Spartans with 33 points, going 14 of 24 from the field and 4 of 10 from 3-point range helping lead the Wolves to the second round of tournament play with a 61-32 victory.

Spartans advance to next round; Vikings eliminated

Early into the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s Class 2A – Region 3 First Round Tournament Game, with the Exira-EHK Spartans leading by 10 points over the AHSTW Vikings, Junior Spartan Harlee Fahn made a shot from 3-point range, putting her team up 39-25, helping lead the Spartans to a 52-34 victory, punching their ticket to the next round, and ending the Vikings season.

Towards the end of the first quarter of Monday’s 1A-8 First Round Tournament Game following a timeout from Eagle head coach Larry Gray, Senior Spartan Cash Emgarten sprinted up court and went for a slam dunk that led to a 77-36 win punching their ticket to the second round of the playoffs.

Cyclones punch ticket to second round with dominant win

The HCHS girls basketball team came storming out of the gate Saturday night at home to begin their playoff journey against the OABCIG Falcons, opening the game on a 22-0 run, courtesy of Junior Molly Swensen scoring 17 points in the first quarter.
“The passes from my teammates, and them telling me to shoot gave me confidence,” Swensen said.
