Schueman hurdles to pair of top-three medals at T-C

HCHS girls win season golf opener at Denison

 DENISON -- Paced by Maggie Langenfeld’s medalist round of 48, the Harlan Community girls golf team opened the 2017 season with a 224 to 230 dual win over Denison-Schleswig on April 6 at Denison’s Majestic Hills Golf Course. Additional Cyclone scores included: Ellen Keast 56, Haley Manz 59 and Kayla Powers 61. Denison’s Hanna Outhouse carded a 55 to earn runner-up medalist honors.

School approves budget; tax asking up, enrollment declines

HARLAN – The Harlan Community School District has approved its 2017-18 fiscal year budget, highlighted by a total tax asking increase of $253,270 fueled by an overall increase in property valuations in Shelby County.    The HCS Board of Education approved the budget last month.  Overall taxable valuations increased approximately $18.1 million, from $510,002,298 to $528,198,600, bringing in $210,600 in additional property tax revenue (included
