City seeks title to abandoned property

HARLAN – The City of Harlan has filed a petition for title to abandoned property in Shelby County District Court, seeking title to a Harlan residence it considers to be abandoned.    Defendants in the petition are Thomas Carney, unknown spouse of Thomas Carney, party in possession, Myrtue Medical Center, State of Iowa, Aurora 84, LLC, and Shelby County.    According to the petition, Carney is the owner of real estate and dwelling located at 18

Earling couple marks 40th

EARLING -- Joe and Gail Gross of Earling marked their 40th wedding anniversary on September 17. They celebrated on September 17 with their children at a Kansas City Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.    The couple’s family includes Jenny and Alex Jensen, Papillion, NE; Rachel Gross and Dustin Halstead, Omaha; and Allison Gross and Tyler Bruck, Portsmouth. Joe and Gail have two grandsons and one granddaughter. 

Schult-Schwery

OMAHA -- Suzie Schult and Chris Schwery both of Omaha were married on July 15, 2017 at The Pella at Blackstone in Omaha. The 4:30 p.m. double ring ceremony was performed by Officiant Dave Bishop.    Parents of the couple are Doug and Jody Schult, Fort Collins, CO; and John and LuAnn Schwery, Panama. 

Jeanne Lyman, 66

    SPRINGFIELD, IL -- Jeanne Lyman, 66, Springfield, IL, formerly of Harlan, died Monday, Sept. 18.    Services  will be held Monday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Springfield.  Visitation and prayer service will be held Sunday, Sept. 24 from 4-7 p.m.

James Murray, 85

    MANNING -- Services are pending at Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan for James Murray, 85, Manning, who died Wednesday, Sept. 20 near Manning.    He is survived by son Ron Murray and daughters Kristi Murray and Vicki Krohn.

Betty Robertson, 86

    OMAHA, NE -- Betty J. Robertson, 86, Omaha, NE, formerly of Harlan, died September 18.    Family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 22 from 5-7 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Omaha.  Services will be Saturday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. at the church.  A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Joseph Page, 61

    HARLAN -- Joseph Walter Page, 61, Harlan, died September 16 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.    Services were held Thursday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.    Page is survived by sisters Frannie (Dan) Nissen of Elk Horn and Mary Hayes of Harlan; brother Steven Page of Manning; and special friend Carol Schwery of Harlan.
