HARLAN -- Shelby County Catholic School announced Friday, Nov. 10  that Josh DeWeerd has resigned his 16 month post as principal of the school effective immediately.    Previous principal Ann Anderson will serve as principal in the interim while SCCS searches for a permanent replacement.    DeWeerd was originally placed on administrative leave from the school the previous day, Thursday.

DES MOINES -- High school students from 27 states and territories and nine countries were selected to attend the 24th Annual Global Youth Institute October 19-21 in Des Moines.    Miguel Mena from Harlan Community High School was among the 200 students selected to attend the prestigious three-day conference.

HARLAN -- Chris Nelson of Gronewold, Bell, Kyhnn & Co. P.C. CPA, Atlantic outlined the annual audit report for the 2016-2017 fiscal year for Myrtue Medical Center at the October board meeting.

HARLAN -- Luetta “Lu” Schwery of Harlan will mark her 85th birthday on November 23. Her family is planning a card shower in her honor.

    GREENFIELD -- Gary Ross Brewer, 80, Greenfield, died November 1 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Port St. Lucie, FL.    Services will be held Friday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at Shelby United Lutheran Church in Shelby with burial in the Shelby Cemetery.  Visitation is Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

    HARLAN -- Edna Poepsel, 85, Harlan, died Monday, Nov. 6 in Omaha, NE.    Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  A rosary will be held Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at the church.  Friends may call Friday from 3-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m.
