Hall, HCHS girls’ 4x400 qualify for Drake Relays

 DES MOINES (April 17) -- The Harlan Community boys and girls track teams have both qualified one event for the 2021 Drake Relays in Des Moines. All high school events this year will be held on Thursday, April 22, at Drake Stadium. HCHS sophomore Aidan Hall is one of 32 qualifiers in the boys’ 100-meter dash. Hall will compete at 11:27 a.m. Thursday, running in section one, lane six of timed finals.

7th Street Bridge Work Begins

    HARLAN --  Work has begun this month on the 7th Street Bridge project in north Harlan with demolition work.    The project includes a 70 foot long by 24 foot wide, two-lane concrete slab bridge with some water main relocation, grading and a detour route for residents to the north to navigate while the construction is being completed.    Some of the bridge components are being salvaged and provided to the Shelby County Trails Committee.    

FFA Earns Top Honors

    DES MOINES -- Harlan FFA members traveled to the Iowa State FFA Leadership Conference in Des Moines on April 18-20 to compete and participate in various activities. This year Harlan FFA had 34 students in attendance.    A total of 5,000 FFA members, advisors and guests across Iowa gathered for the 93rd Iowa FFA Leadership Conference.
