Marie Coenen, 93

 AVOCA -- Marie Coenen, 93, Avoca, died January 26 at Avoca Specialty Care.    Services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  A rosary was held Monday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation was Monday from 4-8 p.m.

George Oliver, 66

    LOGAN -- George Franklin Oliver, 66, Logan,  formerly of Harlan, died January 16 at his home.    Services will be held Monday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m.

Lois Dresen, 88

    EARLING -- Lois Jean Dresen, 88, Earling, died January 25 at Myrtue Medical Center.    Services will be held Friday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling with burial in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earling.    A wake service was held Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at the church.  Visitation was Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

Joyce Daringer, 59

    KIRKMAN -- Joyce Ann Daringer, 89, Kirkman, died January 22 at Salem Lutheran Nursing Home.    Services will be held Sunday, Jan. 30 at 3 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Red Line Cemetery.  Visitation is Sunday from 1-3 p.m.

Diana Petersen, 55

    ATLANTIC -- Diana Petersen, 55, Atlantic, died January 22 at Cass County Memorial Hospital.    Services will be held Friday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca.  Visitation will be Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.    Petersen is survived by sister Lisa Petersen of Avoca; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Pipeline Opposition

    COUNTY -- A number of Shelby County women gathered recently to learn more about proposed pipelines in Iowa and Shelby County and to register their opposition to the projects.    Dixie DeBlauw, Julie Kaufmann, Doris Silling, Donna Ewert, Judy Tamm, Ginny Muenchrath, Jann Reinig and Wava Bails met and learned about pipeline dangers.  Some of the women are landowners who are impacted by a proposed local pipeline project while others are not. 

HCS board president: Patrons always welcome

Omaha woman suing Myrtue Medical for negligence

    COUNTY – An Omaha woman is suing Myrtue Medical Center and the Shelby County Medical Corporation alleging negligence in treatment following a surgical procedure and advisable follow-up review and consultation.    Susan Ronnfeldt filed the civil notice in Shelby County District Court December 22.
