    EARLING -- V. Gary Olsen, 84, Earling, died February 7 at his home.    Services will be held Friday, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling with burial in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earling.    A rosary was held Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the church.  Visitation was Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the church.    Olsen is survived by his wife, Gretchen Olsen, of Fort Calhoun, NE; sons Fr.

Robert Kuster, 94

    ELK HORN -- Robert Eugene Kuster, 94, Elk Horn, died February 4 at the Salem Lutheran Home.    Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Persia with burial in the Valley View Cemetery at Persia.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.

Ana Gaul, 92

    OMAHA, NE -- Ann R. Gaul, 92, Omaha, NE, formerly of Shelby County, died January 28.    Gaul is survived by her sons: Scott (Nancy), Lee (Diane) and Chris (Sandi); grandchildren Tom (Kristen), Michelle, Nick, Courtney, and Mark; Great-granddaughter, Yael. Also survived by sister Sr. Irene Zimmerman, OSF; brother-in-law, Hon. Dewie J. Gaul; sister-in-law Theresa Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews.

Supervisors okay comp. board recommendations

    COUNTY – Shelby County’s Board of Supervisors has approved a 16 percent raise for the sheriff, five percent raises for the auditor, recorder, attorney and treasurer, and four percent increases for the supervisors for the 2022-23 fiscal year.    The move comes after further discussion of the Shelby County Compensation Board’s recommendation that was presented last month and reviewed for a third time at the supervisors’ February 1 meeting.

HMU’s Weber announces retirement effective June 30

    HARLAN – Harlan Municipal Utilities Chief Executive Officer Ken Weber has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2022.    Weber notified the HMU Board of Trustees in late December that he would be retiring, providing six months of lead time that will allow the board to search for a replacement.    “This should allow time to complete or fully implement the multiple, major projects under way or scheduled for this spring,” said Weber.  “

Supervisors okay Master Matrix
