COUNTY -- Welcome the 2023 New Year’s Baby Naomi Elizabeth Kell, born Thursday, Jan. 5 at 5:25 p.m. at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan. Naomi weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces. She is the daughter of Sarah and Connor Kell of Irwin.

Cyclones bounce back with home win over Falcons

Senior Brad Curren scored 26 points in Friday’s home victory over the St. Albert Falcons to give the Cyclones their sixth win of the season.
“It was a good one to bounce back after that Lewis Central game that was a really rough game,” Curren said. “To come out and get this win, it felt good.”

Cyclones hand Saintes their first loss of the season

Sophomore Aubrey Schwieso led the way with 17 points for the Cyclones Friday night at home against the St. Albert Saintes en route to a 49-33, handing St. Albert their first loss of the season.

Junior Aiden Flathers led the way for the Spartans Thursday night with 20 points against the Woodbine Tigers, defeating them in dominant fashion 64-31 for EHK’s eighth win of the season.

Spartans drop close battle with Tigers at home

The undefeated (7-0) Woodbine Tigers came into Exira Thursday night to battle the Spartans and won in close fashion 38-37.
“We had a chance there at the end,” said Spartans Head Coach Tom Petersen. “We had multiple opportunities I felt to knock shots down. I also told the girls that I was proud of the effort, but we’ve got to be able to finish. It’s one of those games that can go either way.”

Cyclones drop game to Titans in Curren’s return

Lewis Central Juniors Nash Paulson and Curtis Witte led the way for the Titans at home Tuesday night over the Cyclones to a dominant 51-33 victory.
Cyclone Senior Brad Curren made his season debut after missing the first six games due to a pinky injury.
“It’s great to have him [Curren] back,” said Cyclones Head Coach Mitch Osborn. “Brad had a lot of good looks in his first one back.”

Titans dominate Cyclones in return from break

Lewis Central Junior Guard Lucy Scott led the way for the Titans scoring 18 points en route to a 53-26 victory over the HCHS Cyclones Tuesday night.
The Titans came out of the gate aggressively with a 7-0 run before Cyclone head coach Zach Klaassen called his first timeout. The timeout didn’t affect the LC scoring, holding a 19-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Hall signs LOI to play football for Hawkeyes

Aidan Hall, a senior at HCHS officially signed a Letter of Intent to go play football for the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City.
“It feels good,” Hall said. “To finally be able to make things official, it feels great. It’s been a long journey and I’m just excited for this next chapter of my life.”

Leinen signs LOI to play football at Dordt University

Stephen Leinen, a senior at HCHS has signed a Letter of Intent to play football at Dordt University, a private evangelical Christian university in Sioux Center following the conclusion of his high school days.
“It feels awesome,” Leinen said. “I’m super excited to be a part of their program. It really feels like a family and I’m super excited to be a part of their agricultural program too. I’m looking forward to that.”
