James “Jim” Birch was born to Rita Mae Goetzinger and Carroll Harlan Birch on November 29, 1947 in Carroll, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Carroll, IA. Here, he also attended St. Joseph’s and Kuemper Catholic High School.After high school, Jim went on to serve in Vietnam for the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970 on the USS England.

McCormack, 98, died Thursday, January 5, 2023 at The Wellington Senior Living in St. Paul.Bob was born February 3, 1924 in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Roswell and Catherine Myrne (Parks) McCormack. While Bob was an infant, his father died of tuberculosis, so Bob returned to his grandparent’s farm in Cherokee, Iowa, where he grew up and attended school.

The gate was off around $2,300 from previous years because of rain on the Saturday show.

Glenwood Senior Caden Johnson scored 20 points on the path to victory for the Rams Tuesday night at home over the HCHS Cyclones for its ninth win of the season.
The Rams came out of the gate scoring 16 in the first quarter, taking a 6-point lead into the second. The second quarter was much lower in scoring with neither team scoring in double digits, with a 22-14 Rams lead into the locker room at halftime.

HARLAN — Nurses, EMTs, and paramedics are invited to attend the yearly EMS conference in Harlan Feb. 10-12 at the Therkildsen Center.    Attendees will take classes on trauma, burns, strokes, heart attacks, carbon monoxide emergencies, PTSD, shock and respiratory distress.
