Sophomore Lindsey Sonderman continues to dominate the sport of running carrying over her cross country success to track and field distance events.

Emgarten shines bright at Central College Indoor event

Junior Cash Emgarten got his season started on a high note with a first place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.32.
Emgarten also finished in fifth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.86 taking home a fifth place finish in the 60 meter run with a time of 7.28 seconds, just .15 behind the leader, Landry Haberichter from W. Burlington.

Wolves track & field off to fast start

Relay races were the defining factor for the Wolves competing strong, taking home a high finish Friday at the Buena Vista University High School Elite.
“With all classes combined, it made for a competitive environment and a good way to see where we were at so far,” said Wolves Head Coach Emma Konkler-Petersen.

Rwandan genocide survivor to give retreat

    EARLING – Immaculée Ilibagiza, author and survivor of the Rwanda genocide in 1994, spent three months hiding in a tiny bathroom with seven other women, praying silently. Her father, who sent her to safety, died along with Ilibagiza’s mother and two brothers. Another brother, who was studying abroad at the time, survived.

Harlan FFA earns top awards at SW Iowa District Leadership

    Staff Reports        HARLAN – Harlan FFA members competed in various Leadership Career Development Events at the Southwest Iowa District FFA Leadership Conference held at IKM-Manning on Saturday, March 4.    Members also participated in Sub-district FFA Contests at Atlantic High School on February 8, most qualifying for the district event.

Neuharth takes first place in 60 and 200 meter dash event

Senior Wil Neuharth performed strong Saturday at the Northwest Missouri State Indoor Event taking home first place in the 60 and 200 meter dash finals. Neuharth also placed fourth in the 400 meter dash, just 1.01 seconds behind the leader, Senior Andrew Rhoades out of Princeton High School.

Vikings prepare for new track and field season

The returning juniors will lead the AHSTW boys track and field team according to Vikings head coach Jackson Renberg.
“I’m really excited to see what we have,” he said. “We have a good amount of returners in our junior class coming back and we also have some good newcomers as well. I think we have some things to work on before March 28, but at the same time I’m excited to see my guys go out and compete.”

“Communicating, we have struggled with this in past years,” said Vikings Head Coach Beth Herbst. “Passing is going to be the second thing we have to be successful at in order to beat Harlan.”

City of Elk Horn looking to make a big splash with donation drive

 ELK HORN —  In the spring of 1966, residents of Elk Horn decided the town needed a swimming pool. Rather than using tax payer money to fund the project, it was decided each family in the community would be asked to donate $100. By the time the pool was dedicated on August 23, 1966, 328 families had contributed to the pool fund.
