SHELBY COUNTY — The Shelby County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted from organizations providing charitable services in Shelby County. As part of this fall grant cycle, $35,525 is available to support Shelby County nonprofit organizations and community projects.

Federal judge issues temporary injunction against Shelby County's pipeline ordinance

 SHELBY COUNTY — A federal judge has ruled the Shelby County Board of Supervisors ordinance restricting the proposed carbon dioxide pipeline conflicts with state and federal regulations and should not be enforced. The ruling by Chief Judge Stephanie Rose was filed July 10 in the federal Southern District of Iowa. The ruling opinioned state law does not explicitly prohibit the Shelby County ordinance in western Iowa but that such a prohibition

Plagman & Ineson recognized for efforts in softball

Cyclone Seniors Ella Plagman and Ellie Ineson recently took home individual honors for their seasons in softball. Plagman received honorable mention, while Ineson made 2nd team.

Cyclones win 3A-8 Championship

Junior Cyclone Quinn Koesters slammed the door on Hawkeye 10 rival Lewis Central Wednesday night recording the final four outs in the Cyclones 9-6 3A-8 Championship game victory.
“This team has worked hard all year,” Koesters said. “We’ve had struggles, but right now we’re on top and we can do anything.”

Cyclones punch ticket to Regional Championship

Braydon Ernst got the ball to start the night for the Cyclones. Ernst went three innings, struck out five batters, but gave up four runs on six hits, including three walks.
“Braydon got in a little bit of trouble when he walked their eight and nine hitter and put guys on base for their best hitter who hit a triple down the right field line to score a couple,” said Cyclones Head Coach Heath Stein.

Drive-Through Backpack Program registration deadline nears

 SHELBY COUNTY — The deadline to register for the 2023 Drive Through Backpack program is quickly approaching. Registration (one per family) can be filled out or dropped off at Shelby County Community Outreach, 1108 8th Street, Harlan or West Central Community Action, 1017 7th Street, Harlan. The deadline to apply is July 14. The backpacks are donated by the Salvation Army.

4-H provides lasting memories, life lessons for Nihsen family
