Wolves, Spartans combine for seven gold medals at Guthrie Center Co-Ed Invite

GUTHRIE CENTER -- The IKM-Manning and Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton track teams combined to win seven events and place 72 times in Thursday night’s Gonzales/Parrish Co-Ed Invitational at Guthrie Center. Panorama won the girls team title with 147 points, followed by Guthrie Center (141) and IKM-Manning (114).

Atlantic girls top HCHS in double OT

 ATLANTIC -- Following 99 minutes of soccer and a rally from three goals down, the Harlan Community girls were still unable to break the shackles of a long losing streak Friday night in Atlantic. Erasing a 3-0 first-half deficit, the Cyclones tied the match in the 69th minute of regulation but were unable to score during two sudden-death overtime periods.

Cyclones lose 5-0 at T-C

 NEOLA -- Harlan Community was shut out by the Tri-Center girls for the second time this season last Monday, losing a 5-0 non-conference road match to fall to 1-6. Alyssa Baatz scored three first-half goals for a hat trick and added one assist for T-C, which also beat the Cyclones 7-0 on April 11. Emma Dahir and Tillie Heim both scored once in the second half and Megan Marsh finished with three assists.

Cyclone girls rise to the occasion, win Johnson Relays

 HARLAN -- The Harlan Community track girls picked a good night for a breakout performance here Monday, winning seven events and scoring a season-high 181 points to maintain their long run of team titles in the Johnson Cyclone Relays. HCHS outscored Denison-Schleswig (164) by 17 points and finished well ahead of third-place Treynor (115) and Logan-Magnolia (107) in the final standings.

Klein’s three golds lead HCHS to 2nd at Ram Relays

 GLENWOOD -- Led by Marcus Klein’s gold medals in the long jump, 200 and 400, Harlan Community placed second to host Glenwood in the boys division of Monday’s Ram Co-Ed Relays. Glenwood paced the 13-team field with 102.33 points, followed by HCHS (91.5), Sioux City North (87), Lewis Central (81) and Atlantic (74). The Cyclones won more events (five) than any other team and racked up 48.5 points in the four field events.

HCHS golfers pick up two-stroke win over Atlantic

 HARLAN -- Kevin Campbell’s medalist round of 41 set the pace on Monday as the Harlan Community boys golf team handed Atlantic its first dual loss of the year by two strokes, 172-174, at the Harlan Golf and Country Club. Campbell’s round included pars on six out of nine holes and was backed up by Max Langenfeld’s 42 and a 43 from Matthew Bjoin.

Cyclones top Riverside

 HARLAN -- The Harlan Community boys soccer team bounced back from a 4-0 loss at Tri-Center Monday night by shutting out Riverside, 4-0, at Merrill Field on Tuesday. The Cyclones improved to 6-4 overall and will host Atlantic on Friday night.
