Saintes top HCHS, 9-0

 HARLAN -- Miranda Beezley scored a hat trick and Emily Casson and Nicole Hilderbrand added two goals apiece last Monday as Council Bluffs St. Albert shut out the Harlan Community girls soccer team 9-0 at Merrill Field. The 8th-ranked (1-A) Saintes (9-2) scored six goals in the first 28 minutes of play and added three goals in the second half. HCHS lost its eighth straight game to fall to 1-8.

Cyclone boys get back on track, win 4-0 at Carroll

 CARROLL -- Going into a seven-day break without a game, the Harlan Community boys put together 80 minutes of quality soccer Thursday night in a 4-0 non-conference road win over Carroll. HCHS outshot the Tigers 33-9 overall and 24-6 on goal while totaling 11 corner kick opportunities.

TJ holds off Cyclones

 COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Trailing 4-1 with 27:19 left in the match, Harlan Community mounted a late comeback that fell one goal short in a 4-3 boys soccer loss at Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson last Tuesday. HCHS narrowed the gap by scoring twice off Ethan Knudson corner kicks in a span of 66 seconds - first on a header goal by Drayke Eshelman and then on a TJ own goal with 15:13 remaining. The Cyclones were unable to force a tie down the stretch,

Allan Henningsen, 87

    COLUMBIA, MO -- Allan C. Henningsen, 87, Columbia, MO, died Saturday, May 7 at his home.    A celebration of life service will be held June 4 at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville.    Henningsen is survived by children Blaine (Cheryl) of Jefferson City, MO, Dane of Kansas City, MO and Jane of Kansas City; grandsons Adam Henningsen of St. Louis, MO and Eric Henningsen of Columbia, MO.

    COUNTY -- The Shelby County Plant Iowa Committee handed out trees to fifth-graders in Shelby County’s schools last week.  Here, Mary Illg and Bev Burmeister, Plant Iowa Committee members, present the trees to Shelby County Catholic School students Friday afternoon, April 29.    The committee said they are handing out hundreds of trees this year to the students.  The project has been ongoing for the past 33 years.

Myrtue’s financials continue to improve, relaxes employee cost reduction plan

    HARLAN - An improving financial picture, combined with cost containment efforts, increased patient activity and strong patient satisfaction surveys have opened the door for Myrtue Medical Center to reduce its employee cost reduction plan.    In a memo to employees, Medical Center CEO Barry Jacobsen said effective May 1, Myrtue was reducing the mandatory PTO requirement for affected staff to half of the original plan.
