 COUNCIL BLUFFS -- On a perfect night for track and field, the Glenwood girls and Lewis Central boys won team titles at Tuesday’s Lewis Central Co-Ed Invite while Harlan Community’s squads both placed fifth despite posting numerous season bests. The HCHS boys scored 12 times in 10 events for a total of 74.5 points, earning gold medals from Marcus Klein in the 400-meter dash and Jon Bieker in the discus. The Cyclone girls placed more often than

HCHS girls soccer struggles continue

 HARLAN -- The scoreless spell reached three matches and the losing streak extended to four late Monday afternoon as Harlan Community lost a 5-0 girls soccer decision to Missouri Valley at Merrill Field. Senior Eliza Martens produced a three-goal hat trick for the Lady Reds (2-2 overall) while Natalie Haynes and Sydney Austin added one goal each. Mo.

Rams blank HCHS, 9-0

 GLENWOOD -- The Harlan Community boys tennis team was defeated 9-0 in a Hawkeye Ten dual at Glenwood Tuesday, dropping the Cyclones to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Cyclone number-one Isaac Stitz played the most competitive match of the meet before losing 9-11 to Sam Lauritsen. Josh Cheek lost 7-10 at No. 4 singles.

Langenfeld’s 75 helps HCHS to 4th at Spencer

 SPENCER -- Playing one of its best rounds at the Spencer Boys Golf Invite in recent memory, Harlan Community scored a 325 to place fourth out of 14 teams last Saturday (April 16). Webster City won the team title with a 312, followed by Estherville-Lincoln Central (317) and Algona Garrigan (321). Webster City and Garrigan are both defending state champions in Class 3-A and 1-A, respectively. 

Cyclone girls finish third at Shenandoah Invite

 SHENANDOAH -- The Harlan Community girls golfers earned third place out of 14 teams at the Shenandoah Invite held Thursday, April 14. The Cyclones scored a 407 over 18 holes, trailing tournament champion Shenandoah (390) and Creston (394). 

Cyclone scores no match for Glenwood

 GLENWOOD -- Costly penalty strokes prevented Harlan Community from keeping pace with Glenwood’s low scores Tuesday as the Rams beat the Cyclones by 15 shots, 144-159, in a boys dual meet at the Glenwood Golf Course. Glenwood’s Kobe Rhodes was the run-away medalist after carding all 3s and 4s during an outstanding 3-under round of 32.
