Robert O’Neill, 91

    AVOCA -- Robert “Bob” O’Neill, 91, Avoca, died May 17 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services will be held Tuesday, May 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avoca with burial in the Graceland Cemetery.  A rosary service will be held Monday, May 23 at 6 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca.  Family will greet friends Monday from 6-8 p.m.

    SHELBY -- Bobbie Jo Shults and Vince Cruise both of Harlan will wed on June 17 at Willow Creek Glass Chapel, rural Shelby.    Parents of the couple are Rick and Roxanne Martin, Harlan; and John and Brenda Cruise, Wesley, IA.

Pomp and Circumstance

    REGIONAL -- Fourteen students are vying to graduate with the highest distinction at Harlan Community High School this week, earning Summa Cum Laude honors for having obtained a 3.9 grade point average or above throughout their four years of high school.    The students will be recognized during commencement ceremonies to be held Sunday, May 22 at 2 p.m. at the Harlan Community High School gymnasium.

    WEST DES MOINES -- Harlan Community High School Senior Addie Kaster was recognized by Iowa Gov.

County, unions sign three-year agreement; pay for performance component in place

    COUNTY – Shelby County employees, those covered under a union agreement and those who are not, will see a 2.25 percent salary increase next year under a proposal approved by the county’s board of supervisors.    In addition, the employees have the possibility of receiving an additional one percent salary increase upon receiving a satisfactory performance evaluation at the six-month date of the fiscal year.
