OMAHA -- Marjorie Mignon Leinen, 92, Omaha, NE, died May 17 at Montclair Nursing and Rehab Center.    Services were held Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling with burial in the St.

    HARLAN -- Leona Mae Ferry Erb, 95, Harlan, died May 19 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services will be held Tuesday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Harlan with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Kirkman.  A prayer service was held Monday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation was Monday from 5-8 p.m.

    HARLAN -- Christopher and Mary Tepe of Harlan celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on May 18.    Their children are Marielle Tepe, a student at Millikin University, Decatur, IL; Ethan Tepe and Jonathan Tepe both of Harlan.

    DEFIANCE -- Anna Grace Krieger and Jacob David Heller both of Sioux City were married at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance on December 5, 2015. Father Guthrie Dolan performed the 5:30 p.m. double ring ceremony.    Parents of the couple are Amy Stoneking, Carroll; Marvin Krieger, Scranton; and David and Bonnie Heller, Irwin.

    HARLAN -- Sarah Muller, Pella, has joined the Harlan Newspapers as summer intern.    She is a junior studying journalism and mass communication with a minor in political science at Iowa State University.    Muller wishes to have a job in the reporting field after graduation.    “One of my advisors at Iowa State, Mark Witherspoon, always says that journalism is one of the best public services and I can’t help but agree with him,” Muller sai

    HARLAN -- Conservation Day for approximately 200 sixth graders from Shelby County was held at Prairie Rose State Park on Wednesday.

HARLAN -- In a few short weeks Anja Steiger of Germany, Alfonsina “Bonlli” de Santos Guzman of Mexico and Leonie Finkbeiner of Germany will be returning to their home countries with lots of great memories of Harlan and HCHS.

REGIONAL – Seniors from area high schools will graduate Sunday, May 22 in commencement exercises at their schools.    Harlan Community High School will host pomp and circumstance beginning at 2 p.m.

HARLAN -- The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and Industry will host a candidates’ forum on Monday, May 23 at 6 p.m. at the Harlan Community High School auditorium.
