HARLAN -- Emma Barnes found a passion and a cause in sewing headbands for children with hearing aids.    “You know that you’re helping people and you’re helping these families,” Barnes said. “You’re improving the life of the child. Now that they are able to hear, they aren’t taking out their hearing aid and damaging it.”    Barnes’ family friends, Matt and Michelle Bruck, had a child with hearing aids.

    HARLAN – Harlan Police are investigating a series of burglaries and attempted break-ins throughout Harlan the past three weeks, and are asking the public for additional help in catching those involved.    Police chief Frank Clark said the department has received seven reports of burglaries, of which four have been determined to be burglaries and three as suspicious activity.  The most recent was last Thursday morning at roughly 4 a.m., whe

    HARLAN -- Viola M. Hass, 88, of Harlan died on Sunday, September 4 in Manilla.    Services will be held on Friday, September 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan with burial in the Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla.    Visitation was held on Thursday, September 8 from 2-8 p.m.

Chambers, 72, Harlan, died on Tuesday, September 6 at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan.    Services will be held on Saturday, September 10 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Harlan. Huber, 59, Harlan, died Monday, September 5at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.    Celebration of Life services will be held on Friday, September 9 at 2 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in rural Afton, IA.    Visitation with family receiving friends will be held from 1 p.m.
