Ida Johnson, 97

    AVOCA -- Ida Alvena Johnson, 97, Avoca, died September 15 at her home.    Services were held Saturday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Hancock.    Johnson is survived by daughter Linda Jacobsen of Avoca; granddaughters Megan Frauendorfer of Papillion, NE and Cassie (Jared) Brockhoff of Shelby; sister Ruth Frye of Seymore; and three great-grandchildren.

    HARLAN -- Marie Greiner of Harlan will mark her 90th birthday on September 27. A family celebration is planned. Her family is requesting a card shower in her honor.     PORTSMOUTH -- Ray and Frances Anastasi of Portsmouth celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on September 14. Their family is planning a card shower in their honor.

Mural welcome addition in Portsmouth

    PORTSMOUTH -- A mural is in the process of being painted on the large fence along Main Street in Portsmouth.    “The fence was looking plain for years,” said Connie Juhl, community member. “We are just trying to clean up the city a little bit.”    About a year ago Juhl and Laura Anderson, city clerk, began brainstorming a project for the fence, since it is such a prominent part of Main Street.

AHSTW HOMECOMING!

Preparation for ESL students gets HCS okay

Greenridge Steam & Gas Show in Irwin this weekend
