Wolves place 4th at SCC Tourney

 LAKE CITY -- The IKM-Manning volleyball team opened the season by placing fourth out of six teams at last Saturday’s South Central Calhoun Tournament. The Wolves finished 2-3 on the day, defeating Greene County and Glidden-Ralston in two sets each while losing competitive matches against South Hamilton (2-1), Audubon (2-0) and South Central Calhoun (2-1).

Harlan Walk to End Alzheimer’s disease set for Saturday, Sept. 24

    HARLAN – The 2016 Harlan Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at Pioneer Park.    Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the two-mile walk starting at 10 a.m.    All funds raised through the walk further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association, a non-profit 501©(3) organization, and all donations are tax deductible. 

Petitioners request more upkeep of Slates Cemetery

    COUNTY – The Shelby County Board of Supervisors has received a petition requesting proper maintenance of the Slates Cemetery in Douglas Township.    Sixty-eight signatures were on the petition presented to the supervisors this fall.      The petition states, “We the undersigned, descendants of Samuel C.

    BENTONVILLE, AR -- Former Harlan residents Ed and Georgia Morey of Bentonville will observe their 60th wedding anniversary on September 22. Rose Ann Schnuettgen, 84

    HARLAN -- Rose Ann Schnuettgen, 84, Harlan, died September 14 at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center.    Services were held Saturday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Church in Portsmouth with burial in the St.
