    MANILLA -- Delores Ann Zeman, 73, Manilla, died Saturday, Sept. 24.    Services were held Thursday, Sept. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla with burial in the Mt.

Mardelle Griffin, 76

    HARLAN -- Mardelle Kay Griffin, 76, Harlan, died September 23 at her home.    Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.

ENGAGEMENTS - Brett Greer and Lindsey Legler

    OMAHA -- Lindsey Legler and Brett Greer both of Honey Creek plan to marry on October 8 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Omaha.    Parents of the couple are Larry and Rexann Legler, Omaha; and Randy and Geralyn Greer, Harlan. 

ANNIVERSARIES - Francis and Mary Ann Koesters

    EARLING -- Francis and Mary Ann Koesters of  Earling will observe their 60th wedding anniversary on October 2. Their immediate family is having a family celebration in honor of their anniversary.    The couple’s children are James Koesters, Earling; Cindy and Jim Scheuring, Defiance; Diane Koesters (deceased), and Allan Koesters, Earling. 

Weddings - Carly and Greg Conry

    HARLAN -- Carly Heese and Greg Conry both of Harlan were married on June 25, 2016 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan. Father John Frost performed the double ring ceremony.    Parents of the couple are Frank and Shari Heese, Harlan; and Tom and Lisa Conry, Harlan.

    HARLAN -- The Harlan Community is ready to celebrate homecoming this week, under the theme “The Wizard of Oz -- There is no place like “home”coming.”    There’s plenty of excitement in the air as the Harlan Community Cyclone football team readies to meet Carroll in a Friday night match-up, hoping to get another win after starting its season 2-3 and keep its playoff hopes alive with wins over Greene County and ADM, and tough losses vs.

Muxfeldt named HCS board president

    HARLAN – Longtime Harlan Community School Board member Lonnie Muxfeldt was elected unanimously as the next president of the board of education, serving for the 2016-17 school year.    Muxfeldt, who is starting his eighth year on the board, replaces Kathy Mahlberg who has served as board president for the last two years.  Muxfeldt took the president’s seat following board approval at Monday’s regular meeting of the board of education.

HMU has clean audit; revenues down

    HARLAN -- The recently released 2015-2016 audit for the Harlan Municipal Utilities showed a “clean” audit with their combined net asset position up slightly, despite a slight decrease in overall sales.    The Utility’s combined net position increased by $1,402,375 or 4.06%.  This came despite operating revenue showing a 5.73% decrease.   It was partially offset by a decrease in expenses of 3.54%.    Gas, Water and Electric net positions in
