Card shower planned for Marlene Christensen’s 80th

ELK HORN -- Defiance native Marlene (Schaben) Christensen will mark her 80th birthday on September 16. Her family is planning a card shower in  her honor. Cards will reach her if sent to 2027 College Street, Elk Horn, IA 51531.    Her family includes Lynne and Jim Heckman, Boone; Doreen Christensen, Audubon; Tracy Christensen, Kimballton; and Tammi and John Schulz, Elk Horn. Marlene has eight grandchildren.

Spartans roll past Bedford 57-14, now 1-1 overall

 EXIRA (Sept. 1) -- Josh Pettepier threw three touchdown passes and Cole Madsen scored four TDs overall Friday night as Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton evened its record at 1-1 with a dominating 57-14 non-district win over Bedford. Pettepier completed 7-of-10 passes for 190 yards on the night and Madsen had three catches for 105 yards and two scores. He also had two short TD runs.

Mores, 11, scores hole-in-one

 OVERLAND PARK, KS. -- Eleven-year-old Parker Mores scored a hole-in-one during a par-3 tournament held here August 22. Mores used an 8-iron to score his ace on a par-3, 65-yard hole (for his age group, no holes are more than 150 yards).

William Lewis, 75

    MARION, MA -- William J. Lewis, 75, Marion, MA, formerly of Harlan, died August 19 in Boston, MA.    A private family service was held September 2, with a memorial service and celebration of life to be held at a later date.    Lewis is survived by his wife, Kathleen; brother David; children Christopher William (Tracey Scher) and Hillary Lewis (James) Winkelman; and four grandchildren.

Nathaniel Booth, 70

    LOS ANGELES, CA -- Nathaniel Philemon Booth, 70, Los Angeles, CA, died August 28.    Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  Family will greet friends Saturday from 12:30-2 p.m.
