    HARLAN -- Joseph S. Reinig, 93, Harlan, died October 6 at Elm Crest Retirement Community.    Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Church in Portsmouth with burial in the St. Mary’s Cemetery at Portsmouth.  A rosary will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. at the church.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan and from 5-8 p.m.

Jean Anderson, 60

    HARLAN -- Jean M. Anderson, 60, Harlan, died Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Omaha, NE.    Services were held Sunday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m.

SEMIS COLLIDE IN DENSE FOG

EARLING – Dense fog was a contributing factor in a two-semi accident at the intersection of Highways 59 and 37 east of Earling at about 8:36 a.m. Friday morning, Oct. 6. Shelby County Sheriff reports indicate a 2003 Peterbilt driven by John Greathouse, 38, Rockville, MO. was eastbound on Highway 37 when it struck a 2015 Kenworth driven by Patrick S.

Harlan will scale back fireworks to only two days

HARLAN – The Harlan City Council stopped short of banning the shooting off of fireworks entirely, but is proceeding forward with limiting fireworks to only two days in the future.    The council voted 5-0 last week directing management to adjust current ordinance to allow for shooting off fireworks only on July 4 from noon-11 p.m.

HARLAN -- Kenny and Carolyn Hursey of Harlan marked their 50th wedding anniversary on October 7.    The couple has one daughter and son-in-law, Leann and David Larson, West Des Moines. The Hurseys have two grandchildren. 

Card shower planned for Shirley Plambeck’s 90th

HARLAN -- Shirley Plambeck of Harlan will celebrate her 90th birthday on October 17. Shirley’s family will help her celebrate with a birthday dinner.    Her family is planning a card shower in her honor. Cards will reach her if sent to 1015 Court Street, Harlan, IA 51537.
