IKM-Manning boys rally past Panorama

 MANNING (Dec. 2) -- The IKM-Manning boys basketball team survived Panorama’s 10 three-pointers and overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to win last Saturday’s non-conference game 54-51. The Wolves (2-1) entered the fourth quarter down 44-38 before outscoring the 1-2 Panthers 16-7 the rest of the way. Both teams rode the hot hand of two top scorers on the day.

Grubbs scores 21 in Spartan win

 ELK HORN (Dec. 1) -- Freshman Tatum Grubbs scored a game-high 21 points in her high school debut while senior Sophia Peppers tallied 18 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and five assists last Friday night as the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton girls basketball team opened the season with a 67-32 home win over Coon Rapids-Bayard.

IKM-M posts 20-point win over Lady Vikes

 AVOCA (Dec. 1) -- IKM-Manning built a 27-13 halftime lead and forced 30 AHSTW turnovers last Friday en route to a 61-41 girls basketball win over the Lady Vikes. Kia Rasmussen led the Wolves with 18 points, seven assists and five steals, shooting 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

Spartans open with a victory

 ELK HORN (Dec. 1) -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton outscored Coon Rapids-Bayard 25-11 in the second quarter Friday night en route to a season-opening 66-51 home win over the Crusaders. Junior guard Cole Burmeister had a huge game for the Spartans, totaling 26 points, seven assists and five rebounds while shooting 8-of-13 from the field.

Vikings top Wolves

 AVOCA (Dec. 1) -- AHSTW outscored IKM-Manning 21-9 in the fourth quarter to outlast the Wolves 58-48 in a Western Iowa Conference boys basketball game Friday night. Both teams are now 1-1 in the WIC. Jack Paulson and Kevin Jorgensen led AHSTW with 15 and 14 points, respectively, and Paulson also grabbed 10 boards. Blake Osbahr added nine points for the Vikings. IKM-Manning was led by Jared Johnson’s 23 points and Alex Lingle’s 10.

    PORTLAND, OR -- Word has been received of the death of Gwynne L. Skinner, 53, Portland, OR, who died December 11 in Portland.    A viewing will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 at Holman’s Funeral Home in Portland.  Funeral will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 followed by a celebration of life from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Andrew Church in Portland.    She is survived by her spouse, Dr.
