HCHS wrestlers finish eighth at Boys Town

 BOYS TOWN, NEB. -- Five out of 11 Harlan Community wrestlers placed in the top five at the 47th annual Boys Town Invitational Friday and Saturday, leading the Cyclones to eighth place out of 15 teams. Blair won the tournament with 195.5 points, followed by Schuyler with 169.5 and Wahoo with 154.

Exira-EHK boys fall just short against Ar-We-Va

 ELK HORN (Dec. 8) -- Ar-We-Va’s Drew Schurke and Keegan Simmons combined to score 40 points Friday night as the Rocket boys outlasted Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton 63-60 in Rolling Valley Conference action. Both teams entered the game with 1-1 records. Exira-EHK trailed 21-13 after one quarter before closing within two points at the break.

Bruck to join Midland University swim team

 HARLAN -- Harlan Community senior Abby Bruck signed a national letter of intent on November 29 to join the women’s swimming team at Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. Bruck was a member of the Lewis Central swimming team for the past four years and competed at the state meet three times. This past season, Bruck qualified for the State Swimming & Diving Meet in Marshalltown as part of three LC relays.

Shenandoah bowlers top Cyclones in opener

 SHENANDOAH (Dec. 4) -- The Harlan Community girls and boys bowling teams both fell short of a victory in last Monday’s season opener at Shenandoah.

Harvest Season Comes to an End

REGIONAL -- Harvest season has drawn to a close as the cooler weather has set in and winter is just around the corner.  As of last week, 96 percent of corn is now in the bin, and overall, many farmers have reported better than expected yields despite the challenges of the growing season.  Dry weather in November and early December stressed crops but did not necessarily impact yields in most areas.    The weather forecast for the next week call

Insurance okays payment for employee theft claim

HARLAN – The City of Harlan will accept insurance reimbursement from its insurance carrier, EMC Insurance, totaling $128,543.67 as payment for an employee theft claim submitted by the city in November stemming from a special state audit investigation.    The Harlan City Council voted 5-0 Tuesday, Dec.

Legislative sessions announced
