Gettler, Fischer advance for AHSTW

 OAKLAND (Feb. 6) -- AHSTW juniors Garrison Gettler and Hayden Fischer kept their seasons alive on Saturday by placing first or second in the Class 1A, Sectional 13 Wrestling Tournament held at Riverside High School. Gettler (30-5) was the sectional champion at 160 pounds after outlasting Cole Lange of Missouri Valley 6-4 in the finals. Fischer (20-7) was the 132-pound runner-up to Underwood’s Gable Porter.

Spartan girls hit 14 treys, now 19-0

 ELK HORN (Feb. 5) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton girls put an exclamation point on another Rolling Valley Conference championship here Friday night, beating CAM 74-53 to improve to 19-0 overall and 15-0 in the RVC. The fifth-ranked Spartans closed out the regular season at Boyer Valley Monday and will then turn their attention toward Class 1A regional play. They will host Murray or Mormon Trail on Tuesday, Feb.

Denning hits 1,000 career points

 OAKLAND -- AHSTW senior Claire Denning surpassed 1,000 career points during the Lady Vikes’ 65-19 win at Riverside on January 30. Denning hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points in the victory. Claire Harris also made four treys and scored 17 points while Kailey Jones tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds. Denning, Jones and Harris each had six of the team’s 30 total steals. Denning entered Friday’s home game vs.

Schechinger joins newspaper as Advertising Account Executive

    HARLAN -- Tami Schechinger, Elk Horn, recently joined the Harlan Newspapers as an Advertising Account Executive.    Schechinger comes to the Harlan Newspapers with an extensive background in sales and marketing, having served in those capacities with several local businesses over her career.
