    COUNTY -- Shelby County has locations featured in the new Scenic Byways Passport program.

ANNIVERSARIES - Suzanne and Kevin Goshorn

    HARLAN -- Kevin and Suzanne Goshorn of Harlan will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on February 24.    The couple has two daughters, Nicole, a nursing student at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD; and Brooke, a senior at Harlan Community High School.    Kevin is employed at Arbor Bank in Oakland.

    HARLAN -- In February 1964, The Beatles began touring the United States, bringing with them a musical phenomenon that captured millions of people worldwide, just not 16-year-old Harlan resident Craig Nance.    Nance took no interest in the boy band and preferred jazz and classical music. His sister, however, loved The Beatles, and Nance grumpily sat down to watch them perform live on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Educators receive grants to support ag learning

    HARLAN -- The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation (IALF) has awarded 142 grants to schools throughout Iowa to support the integration of agriculture into classroom instruction or after school programs with an academic focus.    Yvonne Gaul and Ann Andersen from Shelby County Catholic School received up to $250 to integrate agriculture into science or language arts lessons, and conduct Agriculture in the Classroom type projects.    The Agr

Lois Delph, 84

    ATLANTIC -- Lois Ann Delph, 84, Atlantic, died February 13 at Atlantic Specialty Care.    Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca with burial in the Shelby Cemetery at Shelby.    Delph is survived by sister Alice Shriver of Atlantic.

    GREENWOOD, SC -- George H. Gingrich, 56, Greenwood, SC, died unexpectedly in Broadway, VA on Thursday, Feb.

Dave Pedersen’s Turning 90!

    HARLAN – Happy birthday to Dave Pedersen, who turns 90 this week!    Hitting this milestone gives the former long-time pharmacist, community volunteer, Creighton ball player, husband, father, and grandfather a little time to reminisce and reflect on his nine decades.  And his advice?    “Be honest and truthful,” he says.

Four area wrestlers open state meet Thursday

 DES MOINES -- Three Harlan Community qualifiers and one from AHSTW have all been seeded between 10th and 14th and will face tough first-round draws at the 2021 State Wrestling Tournament this week at Wells Fargo Arena. First round and first round consolation matches will kick off the state meet on Thursday. AHSTW’s Garrison Gettler will compete between 9:00 a.m.

HCHS boys finish strong for second straight win

 HARLAN (Feb. 9) -- Slowly but surely, Harlan Community is trending back in the right direction following a five-game January slide on the hardwood. Last Friday, HCHS turned the ball over five times in a rocky fourth quarter but was able to secure a three-point win over Lewis Central. Tuesday’s final stanza against Atlantic was a much smoother ride.
