IHSAA releases 2021-22 football districts

Four area girls make All-State basketball teams

 DES MOINES (March 9) -- Led by first-teamer Macy Emgarten of Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton, four area student-athletes were recognized this week on the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association’s 2021 Girls Basketball All-State teams. Emgarten, a 5-foot-11 junior, was named to the Class 1A First Team while teammate Quinn Grubbs, a 5’5” sophomore, was named to the Class 1A Second Team.

HCSD holds 2nd annual Unified Champion Schools Inclusion Game

 HARLAN (March 5) -- The Harlan Community School District’s second annual Special Olympics Iowa Unified Champion Schools Inclusion Game was a huge success last Friday night at the HCHS gymnasium. The event featured two basketball games.

HCS superintendent contract approved; $150,000 base salary

    HARLAN – Dr. Jennifer Barnett, newly-hired Harlan Community Superintendent of Schools, will be paid a base salary of $150,000 in the first-year of a two-year contract, as approved by the HCS Board of Education Monday, March 8.    Full compensation, including salary, insurance, FICA and IPERS, will total $202,790.31 in year one.    Barnett also has been offered a $5,000 stipend for moving expenses.

Harlan FFA Earns Top State Awards
