Harlan Swim Club competes well at State Meet

 PERRY -- The Harlan Swim Club completed the 2020-21 season on February 27 at the Greater Iowa Swim League State Meet in Perry. The state meet featured two sessions with girls participating in the morning session and the boys swimming in the afternoon. Both teams had their best state finish since the Harlan Swim Club started in 2017.

Cyclone boys lose tennis opener at Abraham Lincoln

 COUNCIL BLUFFS (March 30) -- The Harlan Community boys tennis team opened the season on Tuesday with a 9-0 dual loss at Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln. HCHS did win the junior varsity dual, prevailing in seven of nine matches. The 2021 Cyclones return just two varsity players from the 2019 team in four-year letter winners Brock Bruns and Mitchell Rueschenberg, who will be the team’s number one and two players.

IKM-Manning’s Dreyer runs for two golds in early bird meet

 LAKE CITY (March 29) -- Quentin Dreyer’s sweep of the 3,200 and 1,600-meter runs accounted for half of IKM-Manning’s four gold medals here Monday night as the Wolves opened the season at South Central Calhoun’s Chelsey Henkenius Co-Ed Early Bird Track Meet. Dreyer clocked a winning time of 11:21.2 in the 3,200 and later won the mile in 5:11.2.

Petersen, Meyers medal at AHSTW triangular

 AVOCA (March 30) -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton’s Tyler Petersen and AHSTW’s Ally Meyers earned medalist honors Tuesday in a season-opening co-ed golf triangular at the Avoca Country View Golf and Grille. Petersen carded a 45 for the top score of the day while Meyers paced the girls field with a 52. Team winners included the AHSTW girls by a slim 250-254 margin over CAM and the CAM boys by just one stroke (218-219) over AHSTW.

Cyclones host soccer scrimmages versus AHSTW

 HARLAN (March 26) -- It was a “Friendly Friday” at Merrill Field last week as the Harlan Community girls and boys soccer teams both held scrimmages against AHSTW. Each scrimmage consisted of two 30-minute halves. By rule, no score was kept.

    HARLAN -- Richard Monson, 79, Harlan, died April 2 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services will be held Saturday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Hancock.  Visitation is Friday, April 30 from 5-8 p.m.
