COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Kent Frieze, 73, Council Bluffs, died April 13 at his home.    A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m.

    WISNER, NE -- Funeral services for Sharon J. Breitkreutz, 80, Wisner, NE were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wisner. Burial was in the Wisner Cemetery.

    COUNTY -- Seth Varner and Austin Schneider are loving every minute of their new adventure of criss-crossing Iowa one town at a time. They visit museums and local attractions as well as dine at the locals’ favorite restaurants. And they get to meet a lot of nice people.    Their goal is to visit all 939 incorporated Iowa towns by the end of August.

Cyclone girls sweep relays at Audubon Early Bird

Hall wins sprint events as HCHS places third at Dowling Relays

 WEST DES MOINES (April 1) -- Led by Aidan Hall’s sweep of the 100 and 200-meter sprints, Harlan Community won four events and placed third out of six teams at the Dowling Catholic Relays on Thursday night. HCHS scored 11 times in nine events overall, posting 44 points as place-winners consisted of just the top five individuals per event and the top three in relays. Hall recorded winning times of 11.47 in the 100 and 23.25 in the 200.

All-Academic, Character Awards

    ATLANTIC -- Six HCHS students earned Hawkeye 10 recognition at the conference’s annual All-Academic Team and Character Awards banquet held in Atlantic Wednesday, April 7.    The academic honors and character awards are given by the Hawkeye 10 Board of Control.  Established in 2001 with the help of former HCHS principal Kent Klinkefus, HCHS has had a total of 81 students earn All-Academic recognition and 21 earn character awards.    All-Aca

HCS 2021-22 calendar approved

    HARLAN – The Harlan Community Schools Board of Education has approved the school calendar for the 2021-22 school year, which outlines a beginning start date of August 23 and ending date of May 27 for students.    HCS Superintendent of Schools Lynn Johnson said the calendar has five built-in snow days and eight professional development days for staff.    There will be no spring parent/teacher conferences, similar to the current year.  Fall

Margie Taylor, 79

    ARVADA, CO -- Word has been received of the death of Margie Marie (Reinig) Taylor, 79, Arvada, CO, who died April 6 at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO.    Taylor is a former Panama resident.    Services will be held Thursday, April 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church in Arvada with interment at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.  Viewing is 4-6 p.m. with a rosary at 5 p.m.
