IKM-M voters head to polls Tuesday

    MANNING – IKM-Manning patrons will head to the polls Tuesday, Sept. 14 to cast ballots on a proposed $19.95 million bond issue that, if approved, will provide necessary funding for facilities.    Polls are open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

    NEWTON -- Stephanie Sue McCumber, 46, Newton died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 10, at the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. The family greeted friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Sept.

Cyclone harriers run well in season opener

 GLENWOOD (Aug. 28) -- Three Harlan Community runners placed in the top 10 Saturday morning as the Cyclone girls placed second and the boys took seventh at the season-opening Glenwood Cross Country Invite. Top HCHS runners were Lindsey Sonderman (2nd place), Kaia Bieker (3rd) and Tyler Shelton (9th).

Volleyball: HCHS wins three matches at ADM

 ADEL (Aug. 26) -- The Harlan Community volleyball team opened the season with a sweep of the ADM Quad on Thursday night, defeating Newton, ADM and Algona in straight sets. HCHS beat the Cardinals 21-3, 21-18, then swept the host Tigers 21-19, 21-8 and topped the Bulldogs 21-11, 21-10. Zophi Hendricks led the Cyclones with 24 kills in the tournament and was 67-of-75 on attacks.

    WEBSTER CITY -- Dale Lauritsen, 87, Webster City, formerly of Exira and Harlan, died Saturday, Sept. 4 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.    Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City with burial at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept.

Barbara Plambeck, 73

    PERSIA -- Barbara J. Plambeck, 73, Persia, died September 5 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.    Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Church in Portsmouth with burial in the St. Mary’s Cemetery at Portsmouth.  A wake service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at the church.  Visitation is Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.

    ATLANTIC -- Frank Dargy, 75, Atlantic, died Sunday, Sept. 5 in Atlantic.    Services will be held Friday, Sept. 10 at 10:30 a.m.
