AVOCA -- Marvin Allen Piittmann, 86, Avoca, died August 30 at Myrtue Medical Center.    Services were held Saturday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.

    MANNING -- The third community meeting focused on the IKM-Manning School District’s upcoming bond vote had a strong turnout Wednesday, Sept.

    AVOCA -- Cheering on the Vikings at the recent football contest vs. IKM-Manning are  L to R -- Liz Cordes, Delaney Goshorn, and Madi True.    The Vikings are home for the first time this season this Friday when they host Southwest Valley in Avoca.

    HARLAN – Low COVID-19-related sickness absences are being reported in the Harlan Community Schools to date despite increasing numbers statewide and nationwide due primarily to the Delta variant of the virus.    School officials confirmed that only seven elementary, three middle school and four high school students have been reported by parents as being absent due to COVID-19 illness, as of Friday, Sept.

    HARLAN -- The Harlan Municipal Airport recently completed multiple renovation projects and is planning for more improvements on the horizon.    The airport office was recently updated with new flooring, furniture, a new kitchenette and the addition of a conference table.

    AVOCA -- Tim Pieken, 63, Avoca, died August 25 at his home.    A private family service will be held at the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.    Pieken is survived by his mother, Joyce (Barker) Piken-True of Avoca; wife Linda (Maher) Pieken of Avoca; sons Ryan (Robyn) Pieken of Harlan, Nathan (Becky) Pieken of Avoca, and Dustin (Ali) Pieken of Atlantic; grandchildren Cyrus Pieken, Rosalyn Pieken, Ashyr Pieken, Eleanor Pieken, Emma Pieken, Fiinl

    DECATUR, TX -- Nancy June Laver, 72, Decatur, TX, died August 23 at her home.    Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m.

    HARLAN -- Dale Clark, 53, Harlan, died August 26 at his home.    A graveside service will be held Friday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Harlan Cemetery.    Clark is survived by brother Robert Clark of Harlan; and sisters Sherry Cook of Harlan and Patricia (Carl) Woodward.    Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan is in charge of arrangements.
