HCHS volleyball team 2-4 at Nevada Tourney

 NEVADA (Sept. 25) -- The Harlan Community volleyball team finished with two wins and four losses at Saturday’s Nevada Tournament. HCHS scored 2-0 victories against Carlisle and Ballard while losing to Norwalk (0-2), West Marshall (1-2), Carroll (0-2) and Bondurant-Farrar (0-2). The Cyclones now stand at 12-13 overall.

Vikings knock off Riverside

 AVOCA (Sept. 24) -- AHSTW handed Riverside its first loss of the season in impressive fashion Friday night, building a 33-12 halftime lead and putting away the 4th-ranked Bulldogs 47-12 to snap a three-game losing streak. The Vikings improved to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in Class A, District 7. Riverside dropped to 4-1 and 3-1, respectively. AHSTW will look to start a winning streak this Friday night at Sidney.

Wolves outlast Trojans 16-6 for third district win

 MANNING (Sept. 24) -- The IKM-Manning football team earned a key win toward possible playoff qualifying down the road here Friday night, scoring the final 10 points of its Homecoming game to defeat Tri-Center 16-6. The Wolves improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in Class A, District 8.

Shelby County Special Olympics hosting first event on October 10

 HARLAN -- Shelby County Special Olympics, the area’s adult athlete delegation, will hold its first-ever event at 1:00 p.m.

New Rose Hill Cemetery entrance installed

Clara Carroll, 89

    HARLAN -- Clara Barbara Carroll, 89, Harlan, died September 28 at her home.    Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan with burial in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Panama.  Visitation is Friday, Oct. 1 from 5-8 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.    Carroll is survived by daughters Diane (Dr.

David Bintz, 68

    HANCOCK -- David Westly Bintz, 68, Hancock, died September 23 at Mercy Hospital.    Graveside services were held Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. at the Minden Cemetery in Minden.    Bintz is survived by brothers Jeffrey (Jody) Bintz of Council Bluffs and John (Susan) Bintz of Bloomfield, MN; and nephew Joshua (Christy) Bintz of Treynor.    Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca was in charge of arrangements.
