Wolves roll past Missouri Valley 49-8

 MISSOURI VALLEY (Sept. 17) -- The IKM-Manning football team built a 28-0 halftime lead and continued to pull away in the second half on Friday, defeating Missouri Valley 49-8 for its second road win of the season. The Wolves used a balanced running and passing attack to rack up 367 total yards while forcing five Big Red turnovers defensively. IKM-M improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in Class A, District 8.

Unbeaten Wheelers top Spartans 56-7

 EXIRA (Sept. 17) -- Gavin Smith scored four rushing touchdowns and passed for two more here Friday night, leading the third-ranked Audubon Wheelers to a 56-7 win over Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton. The 8-Player, District 10 matchup saw Audubon build a 28-0 lead by the 4:25 mark of the second quarter and score 28 unanswered points in the second half.

Trojans outlast HCHS in five-setter

 ATLANTIC (Sept. 16) -- Despite finishing with more aces, kills and digs than Atlantic, Harlan Community came up just short in a five-set Hawkeye Ten volleyball match on Thursday night. Alternating set wins, the Trojans prevailed 25-23, 14-25, 25-22, 19-25, 16-14, beating HCHS for the first time since 2010. The Cyclones outscored Atlantic by 10 points overall but couldn’t win the close ones, falling to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

HARLAN -- Harlan Community High School students had a blast at Merrill Field Thursday night during the annual Powderpuff football game and pep rally.
The Red team beat the White team 6-0 in the Powderpuff game as Kaia Bieker scored the only touchdown on the final play from scrimmage.

Farmer’s Trust, United Bank of Iowa donate to PFWC/LFAC renovation project

IKM-Manning Celebrates Homecoming

    MANNING -- The IKM-Manning school and community celebrated homecoming this week.  Royalty was selected and includes L to R -- Conner Halbur, Taylor Ferneding, Brody Blom, Jersey Bexten, Amos Rasmussen, Katherine Wooster, Luke Ramsey, McKenna Mullen, Tanner Crawford, Bianca Cadwell, Nolan Ramsey, and Delanie Rowedder.    This past week has been “Through the Decades” with the students at IKM-Manning for Homecoming week.

Enzo joins HPD; certified K-9 officer with handler Pedersen

    HARLAN -- The Harlan Police Department has a new K-9 officer.  Enzo joined the department earlier this month, and he and handler Sgt.

IWCC offering free CNA training for 100

    REGIONAL -- Iowa Western’s Continuing Education department is partnering with local hospitals and long-term health facilities to recruit and provide free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training for the first 100 Iowa resident applicants.    There will be training programs in Atlantic, Clarinda, Harlan, and at the main campus in Council Bluffs.    There is no cost to Iowa residents.
