    MINDEN -- Dean and Joyce Olson of Minden will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house on Saturday, July 16 from 2-4 p.m. at the Minden Legion Hall. Anniversaries - Pat and Steve Gawley

    IRWIN -- Steve and Pat Gawley of Irwin celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26. Family and friends attended a surprise barbecue in their honor at the Beth and Larry Hagedorn home in Irwin.    The couple’s children and spouses are Beth and Larry Hagedorn, Irwin; Joanne and Steve Krafcisin, Boone; and Steve and Andria Gawley, Irwin. The Gawleys have seven grandchildren.

Salem Lutheran Homes Expansion Taking Shape

    ELK HORN -- Last summer, Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn announced they’re breaking ground for multiple projects. This year the projects continue to be developed.    “We’re meeting consumer expectations now,” said J.R. Moss, administrator of Salem Homes. “The focus of our facility is on rehabilitation.”    Salem Lutheran Homes is a Christian based medical center that caters to outpatient and inpatient therapy as well as senior living.

Taggers vandalize new county bridge

    COUNTY – Shelby County Crimestoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of persons involved in the tagging of a brand new bridge along 1400th St. recently.    Shelby County Engineer Dan Ahart said Class of 2016/18 was written in spray paint on the bridge at the intersection of 1400th St.

Riley Talent Show comes to county fair

    COUNTY -- The Bill Riley Talent Search and state wide presenting sponsor, Hy-Vee, are excited to announce a local show in Harlan. The show will be held as part of the Shelby County Fair at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 15.

Myrtue Medical Center approves 2016-17 budget

    HARLAN -- Myrtue Medical Center Board of Trustees has given the approval of the operating and capital budgets for the 2016-2017 year following a presentation by MMC Chief Financial Officer Kristy Hansen.
Operating budget outline    MMC is projecting total revenues to grow 7.6 percent from an anticipated $60.8 million in 2016 to $65.4 million in 2017.

HCHS softball wraps up league slate with 8-12 mark

 CARROLL -- Harlan Community finished seventh in the final Hawkeye Ten Conference softball standings following Friday night’s 4-2 loss at Kuemper Catholic. The Cyclones didn’t crack the scoreboard until a two-run seventh-inning rally brought them only halfway back. Logan Schaben, Allison Bruck and Morgan Schaben all singled twice as HCHS outhit the Knights 8-5 in defeat. 

Softball regionals set to go
