Something for everyone at the Fair

    COUNTY -- The sound of carnival rides, smell of various foods and the sight of people gathering for the Shelby County Fair has returned after almost a year of planning by the Shelby County Fair Board.    “The Shelby County Fair means the world [to the community],” said Justin Ahrenholtz, Shelby County Fair Board President.

Lois Petersen, 81

    LOGAN -- Lois J. Petersen, 81, Logan, formerly of Elkhorn, NE, died Saturday, July 16 in Logan.    Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m.

Mary Paulson, 67

    DES MOINES -- Mary A. Paulson, 67, Des Moines, died Tuesday, July 12 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.    Services were held Monday, July 18 at 10 a.m.

Tori’s Angels sponsors Harlan’s Jaxon Rold

    HARLAN -- Tori’s Angels Foundation has recently accepted 8-year-old Jaxon Rold, son of Trent Rold and Devin Mahoney of Harlan, as their 20th sponsored child.      He is undergoing chemo and radiation treatments to fight a brain tumor.

Birthday Milestones - Ruth Ridge

    HARLAN -- Ruth Ridge of Harlan will mark her 100th birthday at an open house on Wednesday, July 20 from 2-4 p.m. in the McKee Room at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan.    Friends and relatives are invited to attend. David Domina, 67

    NORFOLK, NE -- Word has been received of the death of David Domina, 67, Norfolk, NE, who died July 11 at Golden Living Center in Norfolk.    Domina graduated from Harlan High School in 1967.    Services will be held Friday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk with burial in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.  Military rites will be conducted by the U.S.

Roger Coenen, 59

    ANKENY -- Roger Allen Coenen, 59, Ankeny, died July 9 at Iowa Methodist Hospital.    Services will be held Saturday, July 16 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia with burial in the St. Boniface Cemetery.  A rosary will be held Friday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Family will greet friends Friday from 6-8 p.m.

Allen Goeser, 64

    JACKSONVILLE -- Allen “Guz” Goeser, 64, Jacksonville, died July 11 at his home.    Services are pending.    He is survived by daughter Brandi (Jon) Hallstrom of Council Bluffs; son James (Tiffany Powers) Goeser of Harlan; sisters Arlene Zacharias of Persia, Theresa (Denny) Holtz of Walnut and Karen Hess of Dunlap; brother Marvin (Wendy) Goeser of Gainseville, TX; and grandchildren Keyton Francis, Lukas Francis, Tyler Hallstrom, Addison Hal

Gordon Ohm, 90

    ARNOLDS PARK -- Gordon Edward Ohm, 90, Arnolds Park, died July 10 at his home.    Services will be held Friday, July 15 at noon at United Church of Avoca in Avoca with burial Saturday, July 16 at 1 p.m. at the Westlawn Cemetery in Orange City.  Visitation was Thursday, July 14 from noon-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-8 p.m.

Birthday Milestones -Dorothy Carroll

    AVOCA -- Family and friends of Dorothy Ann (Schultz) Carroll are invited to help her celebrate her 85th birthday on Saturday, July 23 from 2-4 p.m. at Edgington Memorial Park in Avoca.    The event will be hosted by her children, Diane (Jonathan) Roos, Donna (James) Doolittle, Duane (Lynne) Carroll, and Dwight Carroll.
